Poll question: Check in if you are stupid for where you live
Edited on Thu Oct-11-07 08:01 PM by RGBolen
A few different threads have had posts declaring how stupid people are for where they live and how such people should be deprived of services and/or the ability to purchase insurance. Of course the posters making the claim are always way too smart to live in such a stupid place. I guess since so many of us are stupid we can at least declare our stupidity together.

5. Well, I live in New York City!
Edited on Thu Oct-11-07 08:00 PM by Bicoastal
Aside from some heavy rain and snow in the winter, and awful humidity in the summer, no natural disasters to speak of. Nothing bad EVER happens here!

...oh, wait...

33. I, for one, don't like NYC at all
Many NYC people have this nauseating attitude that NYC is the center of the country, if not the universe. America consists of 300 million people; NYC is just a fraction of that. In fact, the first time Hillary offended me was after 9/11 when she said, "New York IS America." No, Hillary...New York is PART of America. Those of us who donated time, money, and necessities to the victims of 9/11...WE are America. We're the America that rises to the occasion when people are in need, whether they're in New York or New Orleans.

Personally, I think it is stupid to live among skyscrapers that block one's view of the sky, to live among rude people and heavy traffic, and so on. The majority of us don't live there and don't want to live there. We like smaller cities, or suburbia, or small towns. Less than 3% of America's population lives in NYC.

Of course, there is that 3% willing to put up with living in NYC, and more power to them. I'm just saying, there are a lot more people in this country who don't want to live in NYC, and I'm among them. So it's pointless to be offended by the poll, when (statistically speaking) 97% of America apparently thinks it would be stupid to live in NYC, when they're obviously happy where they're currently living. :)

6. The only thing dangerous close to me is Bob Jones "University."
But BJU is more scary than dangerous. Otherwise (and other than the R/W political environment), I absolutely love Greenville, SC! In fact, the cocky R/W in control here is duller than the Texas R/W, and the small coterie of us lefties is sharper, out of necessity.

At lease we're built for it here and have fewer tornadoes, icestorms, hailstorms, blizzards, floods...

( I wasn't directly on the New Madrid, but close enough and now I'm in Free WiFi View)

16. I live in a great place
My town is so liberal that Republicans don't even bother to run for office. We don't have earthquakes, raging wildfires, hurricanes, killer tornadoes, tsunamis, nor'easters, tropical storms, blinding blizzards, or choking drought. We have four seasons (somewhat adjusted thanks to global climate change), lots of fresh water, trees, and decent rainfall. Nobody lives less than 100 miles away from a Great Lake. Aside from the state's major industry suffering because of trade imbalances, this is a pretty darn good place to live.

23. You Got That Right!
And tornadoes are rare and over-rated here. Michigan forever! Lots of fresh water, and the border is 40 minutes away to Canada, and the right wingers are more like 4 hours away in Grand Rapids....in the island paradise that is Ann Arbor...

19. Just moved
to Florida's gulf coast 2 months ago. I must be really stupid because in western PA(where I used to live) a RW radio host informed me all the time how it is stupid for people to live on the coast. Also how he's tired of paying insurance premiums for these stupid people. Oh, and how it should be mandatory for people to live 90 miles from the coast. Oh, and how New Orleans should be bulldozed over. (It was wonderful to have him as the only talk radio in the area-freakin moron-Dan Rivers on 570 WKBN out of youngstown, oh if anyone is interested in listening to his bs-www.570wkbn.com for live stream)
I haven't run across this on DU, I thought it was a repub thing.
