1. Your Obama link is broken. Here's Obama's statement:
"By having the courage to challenge the skeptics in Washington and lead on the climate crisis facing our planet, Al Gore has advanced the cause of peace and richly deserves this reward. His voice and his vision have awakened the conscience of America to the urgency of this threat, and now we must take bold action so that our children inherit a planet that is cleaner, safer, and more peaceful for generations to come."

4. Oh, yes, all those who worked so hard to help him claim his 2000 win....
It would have taken ONE senator - ONE - to help bring the Florida scam to light. I know that Obama wasn't in the Senate then, and I actually support Edwards now, but he and Hillary have no excuse, none, for not speaking up then.

6. Thank you for mentioning that
This is what I love about DU. You are absolutely correct and I am really glad you brought that fact up. Al Gore should be president today.

10. Sigh. I know.
Even my liberal friends thought Al should stop fighting. Now they're all over him.

Of course, they are that way about Carter now, too. Excuse me, where were they in frickin' 1980, when Reagan was pulling his tricks? Many of them were spouting crap about John Anderson.

IMHO, John Anderson and Ralph Nader can enjoy their time in hell together.

I have a good friend who just LOVES Jimmy Carter now. "He's my favorite president EVER", she says. I asked her if she was such a supporter at the time, and caught her speechless.

9. That was Al Gore's call
It makes no sense to be angry at people for doing what Al Gore asked them to do.

11. Al Gore fought all the way to the Supreme Court and got no real support
From his own party. Don't give me that crap. Even his own Vice-Presidential candidate threw him under the bus regarding Florida votes.

16. One senator
That's what you referred to, bringing the vote scam to light, which is what was needed in Congress. That's what it appears your post referred to. Gore asked them not to.

Before that, I agree, certain members of the Party didn't want him to fight. But that's not what your post indicated. If you were referring to that fight, I don't know why you'd include Edwards because he wasn't familiar with party politics at that point anyway. And if he knows more about the Clinton machine than he's saying, then shame on him. And why doesn't Al Gore speak up now? There's blame to go around for the mess in the Dem Party. Al Gore doesn't have to be a victim if he doesn't want to be. He just needs to speak up. Same with Edwards, Obama, Kerry, Boxer, Feingold, etc. I don't know why they won't speak up.

5. And I should have posted Al Gore's reaction first.

I am deeply honored October 12, 2007 : 8:32 AM

I am deeply honored to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. This award is even more meaningful because I have the honor of sharing it with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change -- the world's pre-eminent scientific body devoted to improving our understanding of the climate crisis -- a group whose members have worked tirelessly and selflessly for many years. We face a true planetary emergency. The climate crisis is not a political issue, it is a moral and spiritual challenge to all of humanity. It is also our greatest opportunity to lift global consciousness to a higher level.

My wife, Tipper, and I will donate 100 percent of the proceeds of the award to the Alliance for Climate Protection, a bipartisan non-profit organization that is devoted to changing public opinion in the U.S. and around the world about the urgency of solving the climate crisis.

12. The best written most meanigful statement was Edwards,
Kerry's and Dodds are the most sincere. Obama's is bland and Hillary's says nothing.

I thought Edwards comments were very, very, well said.

I also love it when he refers to the Bush "selection"

17. I was impressed by the beginning of the Edwards statement, but kind of
uncomfortable that it seemed he turned it into a plug for his presidential bid. He didn't come out and say "vote for me" but mentioning Bush and saying "ready for a change" - just a bit too political for an accomplishment that enormous. IMHO, natch! :7

19. WOW!! EDWARDS knocks one out of the park! Check it out...
"The Nobel Committee's recognition of Vice President Gore shines a bright light on the most inconvenient truth of all -- the selection of George Bush as president has endangered the peace and prosperity of the entire planet.

:rofl::rofl:

The "SELECTION" !! Edwards knows!

:kick:

22. Nice point made in John Kerry's statement -
pointing out that this is the highest honor the world community can bestow.

It sure as hell won't be going to Chickenhawk One, or ANY of his little PNAC pals - ANYTIME soon.

The WORLD respects, reveres, and honors Al Gore. What do you imagine they think of YOU, georgie?
