Will Gore's award convince those still on the fence that global warming exists?

I've gotten into some heated discussions on this topic with people at work about this topic and I can't believe it's still a question in their minds. Do you think such international and prestigious recognition of this issue will finally be the tipping point?

Sometimes I think the real problem is that if they recognize the threat, they might actually have make some changes in their own lives and do something about it. Thing is, much of it isn't really that hard -- changing light bulbs, recycling, not overconsuming, turning down the thermostat, bringing cloth bags to the store, etc. We keep adding new things, but best of all, it's saving us money.

So at what point will we accept this as fact? What will it take to get people to change?

1. Those that admit there's global warming.

2. Those that have personal interests in denying it.

3. Those who are too stupid to know any better, and believe people #2. These people are beyond hope, and the Nobel won't change anything.

I think most people believe it exists because the earth has gone through heating and cooling periods for hundreds of millions of years. I think the question some people have is how fast, and what's the cause.

to believe, it isn't just the ignorant who think this way. a friend of mine was telling me about a conversation she had with her brother last week, who denied climate change, and said that it was all rachel carson's fault for scaring people about ddt. this man was a 35-year career army officer!!

Some people think all of this global warming talk is a conspiracy to ruin the American way if life. And then there are a significant amount of people who think that the the concept of global warming is in direct conflict with scripture. Al Gore's name is going to be dragged through the mud in a lot of fundie churches this Sunday, you can be sure of that.

It turns out that the Nobel is a worthless, politically correct bit of propaganda and anyone who gets one should feel intense shame at being once again exposed as a fraud.

14. No. At this point, opposition has nothing to do with science, and everything to do with ideology.

The only solution to the problem is some form of regulation, and since opponents are invariably arch conservatives or libertarians, they cannot believe in something that requires regulation to fix it.
