Looks like the nutjobs have been removed from tinkering with the science curriculum.

Kansas ed board OKs evolution-friendly science

Guidelines backed by conservatives skeptical of Darwin repealed

TOPEKA, Kan. - The Kansas Board of Education has approved new evolution-oriented science standards for the state's public schools.

The new guidelines reflect mainstream scientific views of evolution. They represent a political defeat for advocates of "intelligent design," who had helped write the previous standards.

The board, with a 6-4 majority of Democrats and moderate Republicans, removed language suggesting that key evolutionary concepts are controversial and being challenged by new research. It also approved a new definition of science that limits it to the search for natural explanations of what's observed in the universe.

7. Have you ever read "What's the Matter with Kansas?"
It's a book written about the religious right trying to take over Kansas politics (I think). I've often thought it might be a good book to read.

9. Indeed! Frank has it nailed!
I live in Cupcake Land (Johnson County). I grew up in Topeka, but began my adult life just north of Mission Hills. I've taught high school in Kansas. Frank's descriptions are perfect.

Interesting thing though: My congressional district made over 200 phone calls during MoveOn/True Majority's Molly Ivins Memorial Virtual March (1,057,000+ phone-calls overall) on Washington D.C. a couple of weeks ago. Not too bad for Kansas!
