Carter hopes for Gore run

Shortly after Gore did not dignify a question about a possible presidential run with an answer, former President Jimmy Carter told a crowd in Gastonia, North Carolina he's hoping Gore will still run. "I don't take a choice between, among the Democrats," Carter said when asked who he will support for president. "Although if Gore decided to run for President, I would support him." His audience clearly agreed, because cheers and applause followed this statement.

Carter made a similar endorsement of Gore this morning on MSNBC’s Morning Joe with Joe Scarborough.

The former president also predicted a Democrat will win the presidency and thinks they should focus on: ending torture; controlling nuclear weapons; promoting peace in the Middle East "with equality of treatment between Israelis and their neighbors;" giving equal tax breaks to both poor and rich people; separating religion from politics; and promoting diplomacy and not pre-emptive war.
