Re: Impeachment... Face It Folks, The Beltway Doesn't Care What The People Think...
it just cares about what the beltway thinks.

And the beltway crowd does not want to go through all that again.

I've always held in my tin-foil hat, a theory that the Impeachment of Clinton had a side benefit of inoculating the congress from ever pursuing Impeachment again any time soon, and that that would be to the advantage of any criminal Republican administration in the future. Well, thanks to the Supremes, the future is here, and the inoculation against Impeachment is working.

When you have solid reasoned political figures like Barney Frank and Bernie Sanders, among others, counseling against the Impeachment of the most corrupt and criminal administration in our nation's history, an administration that has defied the constitution, international law, and has killed and maimed hundreds of thousands of people, and is looking to start yet another war, far more dangerous than the two we're in now, and they cannot bear the thought of drawing up Articles of Impeachment and voting on them...

Then there no longer is Impeachment. It is dead. Obsolete. As useless as the 18th Amendment.

Except that they had to write and pass the 21st Amendment to kill the 18th. Maybe the beltway crowd could do the same for Impeachment. Then at least, we'd all know where we stand.

1. Then it's time to show those folks in the Beltway the door
and vote them the hell out of office and place someone there who does.

6. Yes, but unfortunately after the last 2
presidential "elections" (and I use the word very loosely) I no longer believe that, if it is a CLOSE election, it will not be rigged/manipulated/stolen as it was in Florida in 2000 and Ohio in 2004 (and this goes for Congressional elections too.) MAYBE if the results are SO lop-sided as to be an obvious landslide for one candidate the Repukes and their Diebold accomplices won't be able to rig it.

22. Its actually a little worse than that.
It is not just the Republicans who are rigging elections.

The Democratic Beltway Insiders are rigging many Democratic Primaries through the DCCC and the DSCC to ensure that only their kind of Democrat is elected.

2. Worse Than That. Beltway Doesn't Care About the Constitution
or the country, or their oath to defend same, or the future, or the children, or the Iraqis, or anything else. Narcissism reigns. We got the government that we deserve, I suppose, the self-absorbed, money-grubbing, status-seeking anti-intellectual, deep in denial representatives that epitomize the American voter of today...and not those on DU.

20. Depressing as hell, isn't it?
The denial will ultimately be our undoing.
That is pretty clear these days.
There is no solution until everyone
comprehends what the problem is.
I aint holding my breath.

7. Sure seems
to me that we have to figure out a way to get more of the electorate engaged in the process. There are just too many people of voting age that have NO clue or interest in what our elected are or are NOT doing. I see the very poor turn out in local elections that include bond issues that directly affect peoples wallet and I cant help but wonder why City Hall picking peoples pocket just doesn't get their attention. The notion that it be required by law to vote, much like they have in Australia might be something to consider...

Unlike the Dems, the Pukes aren't afraid to use the BIG guns.

15. If there was a public outcry for Bush's impeachment the congress would address it
but there is no huge outcry from this complacent country.

19. Exactly !!! - Too Many Beltwayers Are Not Interested In Reform, Or Even Playing By The Rules
see: Constitution

They would rather us not notice the corruption of the system, or worse, put our stamp of approval upon it.

23. There's only one way for this to change
elections don't work, not anymore, the only thing left to do is radical surgery to get at the cancer. We're not at that point yet, close but not complete, people will have to get cold and hungry before they wake up to who it is ramming them in the backside.

When the next depression comes, I don't think there's a Roosevelt who can save us, we're rotting from the inside out. One of the best things about getting older is I probably won't be around when it gets nasty enough for radical surgery.
