Poll question: Excluding announced, withdrawn, or unannounced* candidates --
Edited on Tue Feb-13-07 09:10 PM by Old Crusoe
-- from the nomination race, who among the men and women below would you like to see as our standard-bearer in 2008?

*unannounced, here meaning those with an obvious, visible profile, those like Gore or McCain, who enjoy national constituencies already... the poll is shooting for your views on people without that visibility... thanks to impeachdubya for a good catch.

3. Dorgan's a good man. I think he'd make a very competent executive
with no ego inbetween himself and the people he serves.

Good choice.

4. It was a proud night for me to throw in a buck or two for her flowers
the evening DU folks engineered a thank-you-flower-send to Barbara Boxer.

Republicans hate her. I love her.

I'll be in the line waiting to vote for her myself, OMC.

7. Hi, skipos. I had the pleasure of watching on C-Span Gov. Sebelius'
inauguration today -- in a cold Kansas wind, it looked like.

I saw a competent Governor of one of my favorite states in the country, but saw also a woman who should be on our ticket.

Her father, John Gilligan, was a favorite from another time and place in our political history. Truth be told, it's his daughter who has the greater gift.

9. Why is Kansas a favorite?
Just curious. I've spent a lot of time in Kansas City, MO.

10. In our national literature, it is both a crossroads and a destination point.
Not far from your place, I bet, have stood some of the best jazz clubs in history.

Amelia Earhart, a true champion of mine, hails from Kansas.

I love the wind-blasted beauty of the western part of the state, the feeling of unmitigated space there on blue and windy days in the autumn.

...and on and on down the list. It's a comfortable place I try to visit from time to time, but complex and mysterious at the same time.

6. Whoa. Maybe my logic circuits are fucked up, but if you exclude both "announced" and "unannounced"
doesn't that mean you exclude pretty much everyone?

8. Help me out with a term for candidates who have obvious constituencies
but who are unannounced. Clark and Gore come to mind for us, McCain for the Rethugs.

I don't want the poll to be about immediate, obvious favorites.

I'll take any suggestions for a good term while my edit window is still open.

11. Barney Frank
Unfortunately the country is probably not ready for an openly gay president but the guy has great intellect and as a bonus he has a great sense of humor.

12. Older, more mature and realized cultures don't have a problem
with women or gays etc in public office.

Over here we freak out at the drop of a hat.

Barney Frank is a major player in Congress. I'd have no problem with him in the White House, and it would carry the possible added benefit of giving Jim Dobson a heart attack. So yer talkin' win-win.
