I've been watching 'The Power of Nightmares'...finished parts I and II tonight...
and all I can say is...holy shit!! :scared:
The parallels between the neocons and the Islamic fundies are frightnening!
This is all so dirty, and it all runs so deep, it's shaking my faith in humanity to its very foundation...

6. It's a very thought provoking work
It's amazing how you hear about it only on the Internet...I assume that since it's a BBC piece that it was aired in other countries?

12. it was. it would never air in america, for reasons that would become obvious once you see it...
can't be questioning the greatness and righteousness of america, now can we?

24. They showed it in Canada ...
Ironically, the host of the documentary show, at the time, was Michaëlle Jean -- she later became our Governor General. She had to greet Bush at the airport this summer ... I couldn't help wondering what was going through her mind, since she evidently knew about what was in the film.

25. I did not see the video.
To download it would take the rest of my natural lifespan. (And that's just for part one.)

I would love to watch it. Perhaps someday I will. The person who transcribed it described pictures, sounds, backgrounds. He did a heroic job. I really appreciate his efforts.

15. Add "Pandoras Box" to your viewing list too
Pandora's Box was a six part 1992 BBC documentary television series written and produced by Adam Curtis, which examines the consequences of political and technocratic rationalism. Curtis' later The Century of the Self had a similar theme.

Bit harder to find all the episodes, but worth a view.

18. a great documentary series
I saw it more than a year ago and it definitely clarified some of my questions about what's going on right now.

as Seattle Girl mentioned, The Century of the Self series is by the same guy and also excellent. He has an earlier doc series online called The Mayfair Set which sort of provides trajectory for the other two.

Wholphin Video Magazine, from McSweeney's, included the documentary in its first three issues. That's the only venue I know of that distributes The Power of Nightmares to viewers in the U.S. In that case, it's only dvd so google can't pull it.

22. Adam Curtis, the doc maker...
Adam Curtis has a wiki entry that provides links to outlets for his work.

His latest, The Trap, is scarier than The Power of Nightmares, in a way because it's one of those cases where ideology triumphs over experience and influences perceptions in every portion of life.

20. Okay tinfoil time! I couldn't sleep & read this thread & thought what the hey...
I'll watch a bit of the film with my new Mac that can actually let me view movies on google & youtube!

Well, about 5 minutes into it, my internet died. TOTALLY. Red light city.

WTF?!

I looked out my windows...nothing.

Then I thought about Topoff 4...and didn't wanna go there.

:scared:

So my internet just came on again and I'm here on DU. Everything's ok. Or is it?
