The senseless attacks on Al Gore
---

I don't understand the attacks on the climate change science that Al Gore presents.
I don't understand the argument to not clean up the environment.

Seems to me that a whole new economic resurgence could take place, as is going on in many parts of western Europe, based on green technology.

So let's pretend, for a moment, that climate change has nothing to do with man's behavior and yet we acted anyway as if it did.
What is the downside? We get a cleaner environment for our children?

Why are rightwingers so opposed to moving into a green based economy?

I don't get it.

1. USA Today LTTE page had 2 negative Gore letters
and one short positive one.
I dont understand it either. I guess he is just perceived as a punching bag.
I wish he would run and bash-out Chucklenuts and the rightwing-biased media.

3. because they want to move the country back to 100 years ago
when most people had to work all day, women could not vote, and a handful of old white dudes had all the power. Well, they still do, but you know what I mean.

I sometimes wonder if at the dawn of every new breakthrough and pardigm shift of humanity, there were conservatives fighting the change. "We can't use fire! No one has proven that fire will do anything but destroy us!" "The Wheel! Walking was good enough for my parents!" "Electricity?!? Do you want to anger God?"

10. Do you have any evidence that anyone
wants to move the country back 100 years? Who doesn't want women to vote?

11. Ann Coulter, for one,
has said women shouldn't vote.

12. I've heard Ann Coulter say it more than once
and I've heard several dittohead friends of mine discuss how things were better in the early 1900's when taxes were low, welfare was non-existent, and things were simpler.

Maybe it's an Ohio thing, but I wish I were making that up.

13. some sources:
http://www.thecarpetbaggerreport.com/archives/13114.html
(and please do not dismiss Ann Coulter as an example - she is looked up to by many, unfortunately)

an interesting book:
http://www.amazon.com/Republican-War-Against-Women-Insiders/dp/0553378163

I am being mildly facetious, but just barely. Many of the hardcore people who mindlessly parrot Rush Limbaugh and friends, really do think we were a better nation before unions, suffrage, and most likely slavery even if they can't publicly say that any more.

LIMBAUGH:
"Women were doing quite well in this country before feminism came along." (Radio show, quoted in FRQ, Summer/93)

"Feminism was established to allow unattractive women easier access to the mainstream." (Quoted in FRQ, Summer/93)

"Militant feminists are pro-choice because it's their ultimate avenue of power over men.... It is their attempt to impose their will on the rest of society, particularly on men." (Ought to Be, p.53)

I am not being PC - someone can choose to express themselves offensively, but I can choose to call them out on it too. To think that these two, among others, are given national platforms on mainstream "news" shows to express their hatred is baffling.

4. They think it might cost money to businesses.
Which, in their view, is the worst thing possible...

Notice they really have little or nothing to say about the concept of climate change itself; that's why they attack Gore instead.

14. I don't understand that one
yes, it will cost money, but it will also create new industries and business opportunities.

Again, these people would complain about the wheel costing money to the walking business.

5. If Al is correct
Edited on Tue Oct-16-07 07:18 AM by GrpCaptMandrake
on one thing, then he just may be correct on many others. That could be "inconvenient" for the wingnuts and deniers.

After all, please remember that the cancerous little knot of freaks who still support * think he won Florida in 2000 "fair and square."

For them, Al Gore must ALWAYS be attacked, at all costs.

On Edit: Typing too early and finners not work so good.

15. I remember one of our DU'ers calling into Washington Journal one time...
right after Gore testified to Congress about climate change. All the repukes were out in full force whining and complaining about how "radical" Gore was. Anyway the DU'er that called in was brilliant...he said "I don't blame everyone for being upset, if Gore turns out to be wrong, MY GOD WHAT will we do with all that clean air and water! How will we STAND all those extra trees! With all that alternative power it will be so AWFUL having to pay lower fuel prices" and on...
(Or something to that effect) it was bloody brilliant. The repuke hysteria on WJ was reduced considerably after that call. I can't remember the name of the DU'er it was (maybe they will see this and take another bow) , but I still use that argument and every single time it stops the repukes in their tracks.
I don't understand the resistance myself...what do they have against clean air and water? Why are they sooo against new INDUSTRY in the US? Just because it's "green"?
