Last night while watching the Rockies win the NLCS, it came to me why it is exactly that this nation is having such a hard time. We're trying to change the rules of the game while we're playing it.
Imagine, if last night, one of the teams playing in that game had decided that they weren't going to put up another batter after three strikes, but only after four. Then imagine if they'd bitch and moan about the other team doing the same thing.
Members of the executive branch need to get a warrant before wiretapping someone, oh no they don't or at least we're not going to do it while in charge, but if you so much as wiretap one person without a warrant, you're never going to hear the end of it.
The most extreme Republicans in our country are manipulating the rules of the game so that they will win. It's certainly not fair, and especially when the rules of the game in government are that way for a reason.
Warrantless wiretapping is a far greater threat to national security than any terrorist attack. Warrants protect us from tyranny, something that can end up killing millions and millions of people.
If a dictator were to rise in America, the death toll could well exceed that of a nuclear bomb detonated in a large city. The power of our Armed Forces cannot be underestimated, while we may like to believe they could never take the lives of civilians, just remember that there were good people in the military of many dictatorships of years past, they were either purged or brainwashed into committing war crimes. The same can happen to our guys, although being such honorable people it'd be damn difficult to do, but not impossible.
We can't let there be four strikes in baseball, or warrantless wiretapping by our government, it's a threat to our security. (Especially for the Rockies ;-))
