Putin Visits Iran & Warns US Not To Attack
It has been the observation of some that ever since the ending of the cold war, some inside the beltway haven’t known what to do with themselves. Well their prayers may have been answered. Putin, showing muscle, has allied himself with nations less than friendly to us. To the delight of those old ‘warriors’ the game may be starting up again. Other countries are certainly lining up against us.

“TEHRAN, Iran — Russian leader Vladimir Putin met his Iranian counterpart Tuesday and implicitly warned the U.S. not to use a former Soviet republic to stage an attack on Iran. He also said nations should not pursue oil pipeline projects that are not backed by regional powers.

At a summit of the five nations that border the inland Caspian Sea, Putin said none of the nations' territory should be used by any outside countries for use of military force against any nation in the region. It was a clear reference to long-standing rumors that the U.S. was planning to use Azerbaijan, a former Soviet republic, as a staging ground for any possible military action against Iran.

"We are saying that no Caspian nation should offer its territory to third powers for use of force or military aggression against any Caspian state," Putin said.”cont…

“Putin, whose trip to Tehran is the first by a Kremlin leader since World War II, warned that energy pipeline projects crossing the Caspian could only be implemented if all five nations that border the Caspian support them.” Cont…

1. I would say that there is a very good reason for this.....
Edited on Tue Oct-16-07 10:48 AM by LakeSamish706
"Putin, showing muscle, has allied himself with nations less than friendly to us." and it's sitting in the White House.... It's not and never been that other nations are not friendly to the US, it's that the US wants to control all nations on this planet.

6. I Agree & Disagree
Certainly we have been playing the big bully on the block and a lot of countries who have traditionally been our friends have had their noses put out of joint and been insulted by our country's aggressiveness. That being said, there are some countries who we've never been friends with and have had more of a detente relationship. Russia is one of them. What is interesting to me is that Putin may do what our Congress seems disinclined to do and that is put a stop to the bombing Iran business. In addition, Cheney has no love of Russia or for Putin, so the idea of Putin being the one who stops him from achieving his ultimate dream is riddled with all sorts of delicious irony.

Reporter's Notebook: What's Russia Without the Caviar?

In What Has Become a Land of Plenty, This Delicacy Is in Short Supply

“Black caviar is in short supply, even in Russia, because of efforts to save the sturgeon.

Range Rovers, megamalls, sky-top restaurants where lanky leather-bikini-clad beauties linger nonchalantly. It's not the Russia I remember from more than a decade ago. But it's certainly one where I thought it would be easy to find those most Russian of staples: alcohol and caviar.

Those are certainly items you'd imagine would be in abundance for the high-profile G8 summit. But it turns out -- in this land of plenty -- there's something of a shortage of those trademark Russian items these days.” Cont,,,

“I got the bad news on my first day in Moscow. Black caviar, of any quality, is almost nowhere to be found. The reason? Actually, it's not a conspiracy, just the result of international agreements that attempt to save the sturgeon, the fish that produces black caviar.” Cont…

9. Everything Old Is New Again
The problem here is that 85% of Russians approve of him. It was asked in a discussion I heard recently, that given his high approval are the Russians getting more of what they want than we are? Even if it is a dictatorship? And. another question would be, how much does favorable media account for that high approval rating? Part of it is due to a much more favorable economic situation but how much of it is media driven?

28. Russian Friends Consider Him A Thug
based on the way he speaks. I think his approval rating of 85% is because the economy is so good. I wonder how they will feel if it takes a downturn. I remember when his majesty had huge approval numbers and look where it got us. I hope the Russians aren't buying a pig in a poke like so many in our country have.

32. Republicans are the same as Commies and Fascists.
If it's not a dictatorship, they're not comfortable with it.

The thing that made the U.S. so different from other countries is the fact that our people have always questioned our leaders. But, as you know, Republicans are forbidden from questioning their leaders.

They won't even question the reason for the deaths of "the troops"; they only look for new excuses to write off their deaths.

There's no reason to trust them ever again.

35. is what I have always thought would happen
Russia+China+Iran= no additional wars in ME... too much money and oil at stake... and if you were Mr. Putin, would you want a hot war going on in your backyard... I think not. I would not personally trust him, but I think he sees the world more objectively than Bush/Cheney/NeoCons. He is not blinded completely by an unworkable ideology as are the above mentioned.
