Photo shows Pope ghost in flames
Is this Pope John Paul II waving from beyond the grave? Vatican TV director says yes
By NICK PISA -

This fiery figure is being hailed as Pope John Paul II making an appearance beyond the grave.

The image, said by believers to show the Holy Father with his right hand raised in blessing, was spotted during a ceremony in Poland to mark the second anniversary of his death.

20. Heretic! I'm of the Virgin Mary on a burrito system of belief! Just to say that
for millenia people have noticed the shapes that can occur in fires. Why would the Pope be depicted in that one position and no other? Why pic that one Pope pic to make the point?

18. If one wants to understand why the Human Race is going extinct, look no further.
Edited on Tue Oct-16-07 11:19 AM by tom_paine
I say this not to disparage religions of any kind, but the simple statement of fact that, apparently, a large minority if not a majority, are still stuck in medeval times.

This also explains why we seem in such a rush to get back to that "more simple" time when no one had to think much and the Leader was ALWAYS Noble and Godly.

Wow. Looking sat something like this, as well as living through the Fall of the Old American Republic for seven years has got me wondering if maybe it isn't a good thing for the universe if humanity goes extinct.

I still haven't changed my revious opinion (that it would NOt be a good thing if humanity disappeared from the universe), but I havebeen given pause more and more lately.

37. So, explain to me,
If a medieval mentality leads to extinction, how come we ever even made it out of the 14th century?

41. Ummm, because we didn't have the scope or power of the tools
necessary to destroy ourselevs and our biosphere (at least as it pertains to the support of human communtities).

Now we do. It is factual and indisputable for at least one "tool" we now possess:

Nuclear Weapons

We can almost certainly annihilate our species in the long run if we even use a quarter or even an eight of our nuclear arsenal. We can destroy it in the short run if we shot it all of tomorrow.

I don't say this to say that either of these things are going to occur, but to make my point asbout what is different than the 14th Century.

OK, now add to nuclear weapons, other technologies which may (time will tell, so this is speculation that cannot be proven) have the ability to severly degrade or destroy the biosphere for future human habitation:

Petroleum Technology
Genetic Engineering

I am sure there are other technologies I am missing in this short list. Don't forget to addthe difference of having more than half of every human being who ever lived alive right at this second, aka the population crisis.

In the 14th Century, I believe global population was roughly 600,000,000. We've got almost 11 times that number.

Again, I list these things not to say I believe they are 100% bound to happen, but to further point out why we made it out of the 14th Century but why conditions are so differnet now that havin a medeval mentality id far more dangerous now than it was in the Dark Ages.

Seriously, how did anyone "see" this until after the photo was developed? I'm sure you've all see fire, right? Are they trying to claim the roaring flame stayed this way for longer than the split-second it took the shutter to engage? Why, was the pope just fucking with them? Or are people really just that fucking stupid?
