Tens of Thousands Phone Records Handed Over Without Warrants
http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/10/16/verizon.records/index.html

And this is just from Verizon:

"WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Verizon Communications says it has provided federal, state and local law enforcement agencies tens of thousands of communication and business records relating to customers based on emergency requests without a court order or administrative subpoena.

In an October 12 letter to members of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, a senior Verizon official says that from 2005 through this September there were 63,700 such requests, and of those, 720 came from federal authorities."

5. Tell that to innocent people now serving time in prisons all over this country.
If you've done nothing wrong you have nothing to fear ... my ass.

9. I'm somewhat given to irony & dry humor,
and I never use the little sarcasm thingie. It seems like an insult to my readers. You wouldn't believe how much shit I end up taking for that small editorial choice. I think the mods are probably pretty used to having people alert on me by now.

A classic example was a thread I posted announcing Al Gore had won a second Nobel--this one in Science--for inventing the Internet. Wow, did the vitriol pour in (along with a leavening of comments from many who were on my wavelength). God, but some are on hair triggers around here.

11. Also, I always wondered...
If you use the sarcasm icon twice, does that reverse it?

12. I once pointed out to a small child that two negatives make a positive, but
two positives don't make a negative.

To which he replied, "Yeah. Riiiight."

3. Gee, those fuckers would be BORED with mine!
And they probably have them, too!!

I hope they were forced to listen to some of those mindless conversations. It would serve them right.

8. My mom and I begin every phone conversation with
a few choice words of protest. They knew the job was dangerous.

This is plain old intimidation and I'm not afraid. What are they going to do, subject me to the rule of an authoritarian, homicidal idiot? Get my people killed? Threaten my standard of living? Too late.

The only way they can stop me from writing or speaking or networking or demonstrating is to give me a lobotomy. And, you all will know they did when I stop posting to Chavez threads.
