EDWARDS Gets Most SEIU State Support(930,000), 10 to 2 for Obama ... LINK
THE National SEIU failed to endorse a Democratic Candidate before the Primaries and instead left it up to the individual state chapters to endorse their choices. Those choices have been made, and Edwards has gotten the all important IOWA SEIU Endorsement, but 9 other state chapters' endorsements as well, totalling over 930,000 members. Obama's support in Illinois and Indiana swung those state chapters' support to him, totalling 170,000 members.

Many SEIU members were upset that the National SEIU decided not to issue a national endorsement of Edwards. However, it is now clear that a majority of SEIU members were behind Edwards as their choice.

Edwards Gets Most SEIU State Support
By MIKE GLOVER – 23 hours ago

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Democrat John Edwards was endorsed Monday by 10 state chapters of the Service Employees International Union, representing nearly 1 million members and including the crucial state of Iowa, union leaders said.

"John Edwards earned our support by taking a strong stand on health care and because he offers our members the greatest hope for restoring the American dream," said Cathy Glasson, head of the union's Iowa affiliate.

SEIU decided last week not to make a national endorsement in the Democratic presidential primaries, a blow to Edwards who had vigorously sought the support. The union freed its state chapters to make their own endorsements, and on Monday Iowa and nine other states representing 930,000 workers — half the union's membership — went with the 2004 vice presidential nominee.

The other chapters backing Edwards are California, Washington, Michigan, Idaho, Montana, Minnesota, Ohio, West Virginia and Oregon. The endorsements were announced at a news conference Monday evening.

Illinois Sen. Barack Obama won endorsements from the Illinois and Indiana chapters, which have about 170,000 members."

2. Speculation was that Hillary and Obama interceded & blocked Edwards getting the national endorsement
Edwards is very popular with SEIU Union Members --and for good reason.

It is not often that Union Members get a choice for President who epitomizes Union ideals and represents them in such a positive light as Edwards does.

Edwards is not getting the MSM coverage, but his message is getting out and people are responding.
