I know what we owe our country. But my inquiry is, does our country owe us anything?

And at what point is there a valid separation?

And are corporations treated the same as everyone else, aka "corporate personage"?

1. Our country is 'US' and it owes us a lot as well
We are a group policy working together for the benefit of all, while working to respect the freedoms of others (though this is getting lost more each day by putting group ahead of individual).

The only power we have to enforce what we are owed is elections.

And that is something to think about (and why I think so many discussions get heated here).

4. Our country? "Our" infers possession and control. When did that that happen?
If that's true, then I assume that I can sell my 3 acres to Cuba or keep it for myself and set up my own country and make mutual defense pacts with China or Libya.

I don't owe the United States of America anything. But, the government has a very efficient way of charging me for things that I don't want and have no use for.

5. My take, we have a legal contract with the state (Constitution & SCOTUS) and a 'social' contract
with the state (Legislature & Executive).

Not sure what you mean by a separation, but there's always been a strong undercurrent of distrust of the government (most noted by Libertarians, old school 'small government' Republicans, some anti-government groups on the left and *many* citizens).

Concurrently, it seems, there's always been a strong undercurrent of support for the role of the federal government (most noted by old school populists, New Deal/Great Society Democrats, liberal/progressive activists and *many* citizens).

A simplistic break down, obviously, but overall I think it's an interesting give-and-take in our political structure.

As far as corporations go, I'll balk. (I favor reasonable regulations - and legal recourse - on their public behavior, yet don't think they are inherently either good or evil.)

Interesting post. Thanks.
