3. Equal time for all other religions, please.
For instance, have you ever heard a speaker on TV explain Zoroastrianism? It's the oldest religion still practiced today (10K years old) and was the state religion of Iran under the Shah.

Or what is a Bahai?

Or a Sikh?

Or a Unitarian?

4. God, god, god...
thats all this preacher has to say...

God will take care of you when you are dying of hunger, when you are depressed, when you are miserable...

What a simplistic way to look at one's problems.

Why do people fall for this sh*t?

I grew up in Spring (Birham Wood), went to Spring High (even went to Spring High South, if you remember back that far :P ). Regarding Pappasitos below, the Los Cucos off of 249 in Tomball was the best!

7. He tries not to offend anybody....
which actually offends many theologically orthodox Christians. He is a prosperity gospel type, and believes Christians are entitled to be prosperous. There was an incident during Christmas 2005 when Osteen and his family went to Vail, CO (to minister to the poor and destitute there, no doubt) on a Continental flight. His wife Victoria had some sort of altercation with a flight attendant and the entire family got kicked off the plane. From the Houston Chronicle:

<< A dispute involving the wife of Lakewood Church pastor Joel Osteen delayed holiday travel plans for a planeload of passengers . . . At least some people aboard the Continental Airlines flight were less than pleased after waiting about two hours at Bush Intercontinental Airport while the Osteens left the plane and their luggage was removed, said a woman who witnessed the incident.
"She was just abusive," said Sheila Steele, who said she was sitting behind Victoria Osteen. "She was just like one of those divas."

FBI Special Agent Luz Garcia said the Osteens were asked to leave the jetliner after an "altercation." She said Victoria Osteen "failed to comply" with instructions from the flight attendant. She added that no one was detained. Lakewood Church spokesman Donald Iloff said Victoria Osteen contacted a flight attendant after noticing that a liquid had been spilled on her seat. The spill apparently was not cleaned up to her satisfaction, Iloff said. . .
Steele said Victoria Osteen was upset about liquid on her pull-down tray and asked a flight attendant to have it cleaned. When the attendant, who was carrying paperwork to the cockpit, told her she couldn't do it immediately, Osteen replied, "Fine, get me a stewardess who can," Steele said.

She said Victoria Osteen pushed a flight attendant and tried to get into the cockpit. . . Steele said she and other passengers were upset that they had to wait about two hours while the Osteens' baggage was removed from the plane.>>

28. He is completely ignorant about the Bible.
And has no business representing himself as a Christian minister.

Joel Osteen went to Anal Roberts University and dropped out after one semester, I believe, from what I read about him.

He doesn't know .00000000001% of what the guy I took religion courses from in college did. The guy had a Doctorate of Divinity from Princeton (Presbyterian) and knew Spanish, English, Greek, Latin, Amharic, Aramaic, Hebrew, Linear B, Akkadian, and I don't know what other ancient languages. A linguistic genius. The courses were not easy.

That pimply faced dweeb couldn't pass one of this professor's freshman college courses.

His father used to preach on the air too and it looks like greasy Joel took over the family business.

There appears to me that a lot of these preachers have this pasted on smile and Joel does have a big pasted on smile when he talks to people.

Joel doesn't serve Jesus. He serves the REPUBLIKLAN party like most of these preachers.

These people appear nothing more than tools for the GOP getting people of small means to forget about their economic interests and vote for the party of trogolodytes.

You not a licensed Reverend.
Who is this Prophet Joel you talk about? Are you referring to yourself?

And I know a lot of Democrats who do too. There is really nothing at all political about him or his sermons. He's very hopeful and positive, and less gloom and doom. I like that.

42. Agreed, to the point
where I don't know too much about him, but when we lived in Houston we saw his show on a lot when channel surfing, and it seemed more like positive thinking than out and out fundy stuff. Could be wrong, we never stayed on the channel long enough to find out for sure.

36. He's much better than a lot of the TV preachers....
at least he seems to be.

I saw him on TV once and I was shocked to hear him say to his congregation that it is not the business of Christians to try and convert anyone, that it is their business to work at being good Christians. He went on to say that all of them should have a lot of different kinds of people in their lives, including members of all religions, etc. I think he even alluded to gay people by adding "people who live in domestic partnerships" to his list. I remember thinking, "I'm glad it's you and not some Jerry Falwell type preaching to all these people."

37. From what I can see he's in the mode of
Robert Schuller of Crystal Cathedral fame. These guys are less about religion than self-improvement, sort of "God loves you and you should love yourself, too." No dogma, no ritual. Church-lite. It builds up the ego of the churchgoer without requiring that he do anything more than contribute to Osteen. A sweet deal all around.
