I'm going to honor Stacey (Mrs. OMC) by taking part in Race For the Cure this Saturday
I've never met Stacey. Never met OMC, either. But I can show my support for OMC and his family by honoring Stacey at this weekend's Race For the Cure in Dallas.

I'm going up to the kiosk tomorrow to register. I'm putting down Stacey's name when the registrar asks if I want to commemorate anyone. And if any Dallas-area DUers wish to cheer me on, feel free to come on down this Saturday morning.

Hang in there, Jeremy. We're all pulling for you.

1. Good for you! We are having a sale...
Edited on Tue Oct-16-07 09:28 PM by TomInTib
50% off anything that has any color close to pink (red, orange, terra-cotta, etc.,) in it.

And we are a Pan-Asian furniture, accessories and art Gallery, so there's plenty of it.

All proceeds go to the Susan B. Komen Foundation.

And I am going to be sooo.. broke.

edited just so I can say, "KnR!".

3. It is going so well (Arrgh..) that I am going to promote the concept Nation-wide for next year.
There are two of us retailers in our little town who are doing this.

But Get Koze www.getkoze.com is giving to a different organization http://www.tocelebratelife.org/ .

4. My sister passed away two years ago from breast cancer
They had a walk for breast cancer and the family went to remember her. I know how this gentleman feels. I still feel the lost after two years.

5. I've participated ever since my neighbor
was diagnosed with breast cancer back in the early 80's. I've donated/given to breast cancer and gone 'pink' to breast cancer awareness groups many years ago when another friend died in the 80's at the young age of 28. She left behind a husband and 2 beautiful children way back in the 80's. Way before the 'internet' age. Did she die in vain? I hope not. I have a very dear friend going through treatments as we speak. Will she die soon? I pray she doesn't. She has gone through 2 sets of chemo and is now starting her radiation. Fighting it tooth and nail.

Just because you recognise a member here, it's highly doubtful she is the only person you have ever met who has had breast cancer. Why weren't you more aware and given your dollars and time back then? I've had one sister-in-law die and another who has 'survived'.

Please recognise all the other survivors in this fight!!!!!

6. Your tone is kinda putting me off...
I recognize that your friends have been suffering, but saying things like "Why weren't you more aware and given your dollars and time back then" doesn't help either you or me. As it is, I've had to deal with family members suffering from ovarian cancer, lung cancer, spasmodic dysphonia, septicemia, etc.

Besides, last year I also participated in RFTC without singling out any particular breast cancer victim or survivor for any special mention. I was there for all who had to deal with breast cancer, as well as their families.

So please, spare me your sermon and take a deep breath.

9. Who the fuck are you to tell others what or who they should be motivated by?
It's amazing that people like you can try to make someone doing something good into something crappy.

11. OMC and I have had our squabbles in the past...
...but the words of Jesus come to mind: "When you have done it to the least of these, you have also done it to me."

I am sorry that you had to bear this travail for 20 years. I know cancer is scary, and I live every day with the knowledge that my wife may be diagnosed with full-blown multiple myeloma (she's been an ovarian cancer survivor for 20-odd years). But at least I'm here now to do whatever I'm able. And if that means doing the 5K for the wife of a DUer that many consider a "jerk," I will do that. And next year I'll take on the ovarian cancer 5K on behalf of my wife. I do what I can.

21. And its a wonderful thing you do. Many hugs and blessings for your
wife until the scourge of cancer disappears. I doubt that there are many on this board who haven't been touched by cancer. I cry for my dad every day. Thank you for your kindness to others. It is never misplaced to be and do good.

20. You know what, you presume. How can you presume such a
thing when everyone who runs does so for all. My father died of cancer. All of my mom's family was felled by cancer, including breast cancer. I know they run for them. But if you have a chance to do a good deed, to remember someone who was lost so soon to honor their family who are grieving with fresh wounds, then its a good thing for the LIVING. No one is forgotten. All are remembered. Quailing at this person for naming someone they are honoring is a low blow. Very, very low. I guess no good deed goes unpunished.

8. What a great thing to do... Will you be walking or running?
I hope you have cool weather for the event. I know Dallas can feel like an oven. Good luck.

12. I'm in no shape to RUN the entire 5K...
I'll jog as long as this body will let me, but one way or another, I'm crossing the finish line. Last year, I did it with a twisted ankle and a belly full of Monster KHAOS energy drink to push me through the pain. Hopefully, I won't have to deal with that on Saturday.

And I think we'll have decent weather for it, too - thanks!

14. Please post the website of your local Race for the Cure!
I would make a donation under your name in Stacey's honor. PM me if you don't want to post your personal info online but I am serious in that I want to ensure you get the credit for your walk.

I've done numerous breast cancer walks organized by the Avon and Susan G. Komen organizations and would love to get a direct link to Stacey with your excellent efforts!!
