Gore Says Still No Plans to Run
OSLO, Norway (AP) — Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore says winning the Nobel Peace Prize has not pushed him into entering the 2008 presidential race.

"I don't have plans to be a candidate again, so I don't really see it in that context at all," Gore told Norwegian state broadcaster NRK in an interview broadcast Wednesday. "I'm involved in a different kind of campaign. It's a global campaign. It's a campaign to change the way people think about the climate crisis."

2. I missed the big thread on the front page, which explains why the crickets are chirping in here!
Either that, or everyone is in denial.

9. You can rule out denial
News such as this often gets posted in LBN: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=102&topic_id=3031311&mesg_id=3031311

74 replies so far. I myself replied in yet another Gore's Not Running thread that I think was in GD but might've been in GDP.

It can be easy to miss all these threads since DU moves so fast so don't take the *crickets* on this thread personal or fear that DUers are just covering their ears and yelling "I CAN'T HEAR YOU!!". Even we die hard Gore hold-outs are coming to grips with the sitauation.

10. Yeah, that's the thread I was talking about.
It's on the front page at the moment. My "crickets" comment was mostly a joke. I know how volatile the issue of Gore's potential candidacy is. :)

3. I like your title better than "rules out" because it's closer to the truth.
Edited on Wed Oct-17-07 08:38 AM by Uncle Joe
I believe the "rules out" invented by the media is sign of Al Gore's growing popularity. It's the same as Gallup coming out with their poll within hours of his winning the Nobel Peace Prize saying there was no spike, that sort of thing takes time to sink in, also as part of the nation, the South and West go through record drought, they know more people are waking up to global warming and this is why they're eager to get him out of the race.

4. I suppose that it's a matter of interpretation.
There is a semantic difference, of course, between "rules out" and "doesn't plan to run."

That being said, Al's statement seems fairly definitive. Personally, I think he's happy with the current status of his life, so I'm not sure why he'd want to give that up to re-enter politics.

5. "has no plans" is his standard line.
It's a non-denial denial.

6. I believe it was Tommy Lasorda that said
"it ain't over until it's over."

8. Actually, that was Yogi Berra, but your point stands.
"It ain't over 'til it's over."

He also said, "It's getting late early", which could also apply.

Obviously, it's not over until Gore officially announces that it's over.

"I'm involved in a different kind of campaign, it's a global campaign," Gore said. "It's a campaign to change the way people think about the climate crisis."

I wonder how many will insist that the terminology "I don't have plans" means he is really considering it.

Get a grip, people, AL GORE IS NOT RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT.
