Breaking: Turkish parlt approves N.Iraq incursion request

ANKARA, Oct 17 (Reuters) - Turkey's parliament approved by a large majority on Wednesday a government request to allow troops to cross into northern Iraq to crush Kurdish rebels based there.

Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan has played down expectations of an imminent offensive, but the parliamentary approval provides the legal basis for NATO's second biggest army to cross the mountainous border as and when it sees fit.

and the U.S. has done nothing to stop it. In fact, indirectly, weapons given to the Kurds, end up in the PKK's hands

6. It's ironic that Turkey's NATO allies are required to assist it in the event

of invasion or border incursion from a non NATO
country. So technically Iraq is an agressor from
the standpoint of the NATO treaty.
