Weather forcast for this winter. Little relief from drought
http://www.noaanews.noaa.gov/stories2007/20071009_outlook.html

NOAA forecasters are calling for above-average temperatures over most of the country and a continuation of drier-than-average conditions across already drought-stricken parts of the Southwest and Southeast in its winter outlook for the United States, announced at the 2007-2008 Winter Fuels Outlook Conference in Washington, D.C., today.

“La Niña is here, with a weak-to-moderate event likely to persist through the winter,” said Michael Halpert, head of forecast operations and acting deputy director of NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center. “The big concern this winter may be the persistence of drought across large parts of the already parched South. And while December through February is likely to be another milder-than-average winter for much of the country, people should still expect some bouts of winter weather.”

1. So, if I was a repuke, I would like this forecast. It means that here in PA, my
heating bill will be lower and I will not have to suffer through as much snow and freezing rain as usual. What's bad about that?

6. I know, we may be facing the first ecological refugees
due to global warming (after Katrina that is)

And the irony is... this is happening in the bible belt

The people who deny it the worst

By the way, we in Cali are doing better, but are stil in the midst of a drought, the rain right now is welcomed, but will hardly make a dent

If the winter snow pack is low... the crisis wil move west by next year

7. We're 9" below normal here. We had green grass in the spring,
but it started turning brown even before summer.

3. Reminds me of a friend of mine who is glad about the mortgage/foreclosure
housing crisis as she will be able to get a cheaper house even though it may put the whole economy at risk.

5. The governor here (NC) has announced major water restrictioins.
(Not an exact quote) "A dusty car and brown lawn should be marks of pride."

No washing cars, no hosing down sidewalks and driveways, no watering the lawn, please remember to shut the water off while brushing your teeth...

Some of our reservoirs have fewer than 100 days of water in them.

We are in real trouble, here.

9. Be sure to use your bath water to water around your foundation.
you don't want the soil to pull away from your foundation.

8. Here in Oregon, La Nina
means a winter of wet weather. I'd love to send some of it to the midwest or east coast.
