Concerned Christian group to hold WEEKLONG lecture series: why gay rights are not human rights
At first I was quite miffed. Why is Charlotte Church being so hateful? Then I saw, it's only a bunch of "concerned Christians" who are going to put on this WEEK LONG lecture series. SERIES! To explain why homosexuals cannot legitimately call themselves human. :grr:

Charlotte Church Leaders to Discuss the Radical Agenda of Homosexual Activists at Weeklong Lecture Series

CHARLOTTE, Feb. 13 /Christian Newswire/ -- Three years ago, the Human Rights Campaign, the world's largest homosexual advocacy organization, moved its annual Carolina's dinner to Charlotte. While local gay activists have applauded the HRC's presence in Charlotte, not everyone is pleased with this development. Dr. Michael L. Brown, director of the Coalition of Conscience and a nationally known Christian leader and best-selling author, is convinced that now is the time to speak up.

"We have no desire to enter in a rhetorical battle with the HRC. We simply want to raise public awareness about who the HRC really is and what the HRC really stands for, demonstrating that they cannot legitimately be called the 'Human Rights' Campaign."

According to Brown, "The HRC has a clearly articulated agenda which does not stand for human rights for all, and as Christians, we take issue with that agenda."

In anticipation of the HRC dinner on February 24, Brown, will deliver a series of five lectures on "Homosexuality, the Church, and Society." The lectures will be held nightly from February 19-23 at the North Carolina Blumenthal Performing Arts Center. The lectures are free and open to the public and will be followed by a time of Q & A, with dissenting opinions welcomed.

Sponsors of last year's HRC dinner included Duke Energy, the Charlotte Observer, Bank of America, Wachovia, Audi, Blue Cross Blue Shield, IBM, and Sir Speedy Press. Brown asks, "Would these companies be as quick to voice their support for the HRC if it was more accurately named the Homosexual Rights Campaign? Would they be so vocal if it were called the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Rights Campaign? And does the general public know what the HRC really stands for?"

According to Brown, "The HRC is not fighting for equal rights for all people. Instead, it wants to impose its agenda on others, including how we define marriage, how we run our businesses, how we teach our children, and even how we interpret the Bible. We feel that now is the right time to air our differences with the HRC in a rational and respectful manner. I am hopeful that they will respond to us in the same spirit with which we exercise our human right to differ with them."

There will be a news conference on Thursday, February 15, at 10:00 AM in front of the Booth Playhouse at the corner of Trade and Tryon.

The Coalition of Conscience is a network of Christian leaders and concerned Christian citizens, based in the greater Charlotte area, who are working together for moral and cultural change through the gospel. Michael L. Brown, Ph.D., is the director of the Coalition and has appeared on TV shows such as Donahue, Prime Time Justice, Fox News, Hard Copy, and Inside Edition. His work has also been featured in newspapers such as the Washington Post and Baltimore Sun.

2. My advice to them - don't like gay, don't be gay - leave the rest alone
If they are so worried about society, it's influence, etc then why don't they live like the amish? The Amish ain't out to change me (or you). They live their life, their way, and leave me alone.

And they make real good pies and fried chicken :)

6. Ultimately, their reasoning must boil down to
"because gays are not human."

As Wanda Sykes said, Gay is the new Black.

7. Some Busheviks emboldned enough to openly tout Nazi agenda
Does this mean Blacks and Jews and Gyspies aren't human, or in the American version of Nazism, is it only the gays who aren't human?

:sarcasm:

8. Unfortunately the homosexual issue is a major problem for fundamentalism
It all has to do with their notion of sin. Sin is defined as choosing to turn you back on God. To them all sin is the result of choice. And because the bible seems to define homosexual activity as sin (there is some question as to whether it is a translation error and interpretation error) they insist that homosexuality must be the result of personal choice. It says so in the bible (or at least that is how they see it).

The problem of course is that science just keeps pounding on the foundations of their belief. Normally when science knocks out a particular pillar of belief though it does not strike at a moral precept. Usually its something like whether the earth is at the center of the universe or something like that. Even if they are forced to concede it does not impinge upon their claim to moral authority.

But in the case of homosexuality science has struck a blow at a moral precept. If science is right then homosexuality cannot be a choice. If homosexuality is natural then it will prove to be a failing of a claim of morality in the bible. And that will be like a spear to their claims of moral authority.

Fundamentalism has struggled with science ever since the church lost control of the field (they used to be the biggest sponsors of science). But the homosexual issue is perhaps the most damaging issue they have ever faced. They simply put cannot back down from this one without suffering considerable damage.

9. The glory days of the right have already ended.
They're grasping at straws. Most people never cared what they thought. It was just an accident of fate that Republicans courted them so heavily and catapulted them into the limelight. And they're all reaping what they've sown, now. Time for these types to crawl back into the woodwork, where they belong. Bitter, moi?

11. I hope this gets a huge amount of publicity
because this can only backfire in their faces. It will convince even more straight people that we really are facing lunatics, and the struggle for our rights against these lunatics really does need to be taken seriously.

These people are a cancer on the body politic. The day when they're a forgotten and ignored footnote in our history can't come too soon.

13. wow
HRC is hardly 'radical' - to me, they've always been too tame and too white-glove. They hold glitzy fundraisers (lots of 'em) and other than that I have no idea what they actually do other than lobby Congress.

It looks like they're doing what all these fundie groups do - try to raise money from their askeer'd little followers by painting us as devils. It's all about $$$$$$.

If you read the article, it mentions that the KKK is on the rise around the country.

It's getting to be a problem everywhere like it was back in the 50s and 60s. x(

the gay agenda seems to have REALLY grown since the last time I checked. I mean, last I heard they just wanted equal rights and protection against discrimination... man have I been out of touch.
:sarcasm:

(edited to add sarcasm tag, just in case you couldn't tell that I was being sarcastic without it being there.)

Aren't we still looking for all of those "stone the gays" speeches from Jesus Christ? Maybe they will 'turn up' in the next new and improved translation.

20. "Impose It's Agenda on Others." GOD DAMN IT!
Why is it so damn hard for some people to understand that gays, lesbians, and transgendered Americans just want to have the same rights as everyone else?! But, these shmucks only see that as an agenda being imposed on them. Fucking bigots, that's all they are.

of The Big Gay Agenda outside their wackjob lectures.

Wouldn't that be fun?
