We're not alone. 25 Percent of Germans Think Being Nazi Not So Bad
Edited on Wed Oct-17-07 04:16 PM by no_hypocrisy
Pollsters for the Forsa agency, commissioned by the weekly magazine Stern, asked whether National Socialism also had some "good sides (such as) the construction of the highway system, the elimination of unemployment, the low criminality rate (and) the encouragement of the family."

Forsa said 25 percent responded "yes"—but 70 percent said "no."

5. Wow, the same number as here
There must be some genetic component to this...if only it could be isolated and fixed.

9. Wow. A bizarre correlation between bushco's approval
numbers and a poll in GERMANY asking if there were any good aspects to the Nazi regime. Quite a stretch there, even before taking into consideration your "genetic component" remark.

11. Yes, I read about that, simply forgot it.
But that doesn't account for your conflation of two unrelated polls.

6. I don't see anything wrong with this.

They're asking if there were any benefits at all to Nazi rule. As an impartial observer, I would say that's a pretty obvious "yes:" the highway system, low crime rate, and the unemployment figures they mention were certainly not bad sides. The fact that 70% believe that the well-known evils of Nazi rule were so egregious that their ghosts hopelessly contaminate even the few positive sides of day-to-day life in Nazi germany is certainly a good thing.

Now, if 25% were to have replied "yes" to the question "Do you believe that Nazi rule was good," or "Do you in any way support the actions or ideals of the National Socialist party," then it's time to start worrying.

12. I agree - in fact, it's interesting that 70% answered no.
Our problems are quite different from what folks in Germany think about Nazis, though.

We need to take a closer look at how many Germans thought the Nazis were just fine at the time! Because we've got a similar problem developing here - way too many people in the U.S. who think that bushco is just fine. That's our big problem.

See, THIS is what happens when "The Producers" comes to Germany.
Everyone's going "Don't be stupid, be a smarty! Come and join the Nazi party!"

14. "He made the trains run on time." That's what they said 60 years ago.
That's the phrase coined during that period of European history to describe what Mussolini and Hitler did with respect to the economy.

However, the picture is a bit more complex. The Nazi Party really only adopted elements of the socialist platform in order to stay relevant with voters in that era. Socialist tendency and thought were extremely popular with workers back then, and the Nazis cashed in on that popularity by including within their own platform elements that socialists and communists had invented. However, once Hitler became entrenched in office, the socialist element in the party was almost entirely purged. From that point forward, the only public investment came in the form of spending on the war machine.
