Conservatism: Group makeup for selfishness.
In other words, I've come to decide that these whiners really believe it's just fine to think only of themselves, or maybe their family, or town. It's just fine to despise everyone else.

And if the groupthink gives you an opportunity to be really proud of your smallness, then these people who will always be small will always need their flock of whiners to feel good about themselves.

As our beloved Molly Ivins said: "George Bush was born on third base and thinks he hit a triple."

To follow her line of reasoning:

Poor people who think they're conservative are just too dumb or bogotted to realize they're rooting for a team that despises them. Or, they're too busy working 3 minimum wage jobs to read the news and think about the fact that nothing the conservatives say and do ever match.

Middle class people think that if they're conservatives they have permission to look down on poor people or people who are already marginalized by conservatives. Being conservative gives them a spot in line ahead of others.

And rich conservatives know deep down they don't deserve their comfortable life and should care about others but are too afraid of losing what they've got to piss off the other conservatives by caring.
