1. Too bad that's where the similarity ends.
Bush is too in love with himself to feel shame.

4. Approval being the same as Nixon's doesn't mean the situation is similar
When Nixon resigned, his administration had been effectively destroyed and brought down by strong Congressional investigation (-not- impeachment). Bush's administration is not yet in similar trouble. If Congress would push the executive privilege issue all the way to SCOTUS, we could get the evidence to attack his administration more effectively. Impeachment, at this time, without that necessary breakthrough, would not convict. In Nixon's time, they got that breakthrough before impeachment hearings were brought about.

Another factoid that shows approval ratings don't always predict political fortunes effectively is Truman's low thirties approval rating leading up to his contest with Dewey.

6. So? Bush is still very much in power
and still sneering. He continues to do exactly what he wants. Congress and Pelosi aren't doing shit and won't. The wars in Iraq & Afghanistan are raging as fiercely as ever but now we have Blackwater stormtroopers thrown into the mix. It gets worse by the day. Our Constitution is effectively defunct. Unlike in Nixon's day, Congress has sat by for the last 7 years and let Bush, Rove and Cheney sodomize it on a daily basis. Checks and Balances are apparently dead. Bush can still unilaterally bomb Iran and probably will. His low poll numbers don't mean shit until he is stopped once and for all, and I do not see that happening.

7. The Nazi Party in Germany has an approval rating 1% higher than Bush does here.
We're not alone. 25 Percent of Germans Think Being Nazi Not So Bad

9. K&R - Thanks for the stats ! Interesting. Didn't know Clinton had
the best rating. Gives me good ammunition when my right wingnut inlaws say, "Carter was so bad." Hell, 53's not chicken liver.

10. Don't think there's any chance of that happening with the Chimp, though.
Hearing his Press Conference today...seems more likely he needs to be taken out in a straight jacket. He's not planning on leaving...:-(
