Why are people so quick to crown Hillary Clinton as the Democratic nominee?
After all, we did the same with Howard Dean at this time in 2003 and Paul Tsongas in 1991.

2. Remember how Bush rode name recognition polls to the nomination?
That's the Clinton '08 strategy in a nutshell...

3. She has already been annointed by the Powers That Be
It would be nice if they could get the people's consent, but face it: primaries and caucuses are totally irrelevant (see: Joseph Lieberman.)

Baaaaaa!

11. Because it's been a done deal
since 1992. Howard Dean did not have the Machine behind him (Kerry did) and Tsongas is irrelevant as he he never had the national numbers -- also it was pre-1991. Surely you don't think the exploitation of the "Dean Scream" was a Republican trick, did you?

13. The media and the republican party started that framing years ago.
People start to believe things they hear repeated enough.

15. Optimism?
Maybe some of the Hillary supporters feel that the polls are indicative of the likely outcome of the race.

The level of certitude that one feels is probably proportional to one's faith in the polls. A lot can change between now and Iowa.
