This is Your Brain on Drugs

Busy day in Washington DC, Truthseekers. The Senate Judiciary Committee held a confirmation hearing on the nomination of Michael Mukasey to be 81st U.S. Attorney General. Mukasey vowed to protect the civil liberties of the American people. Yeah right, as if we have any left after all of Bush's signing statements and Executive Orders.

Meanwhile back at the White House, Chucklenutz came out swinging at a rare press conference today. Man-or-Monkey blasted the Democrats for failing to pass all his fascist legislation. Raisin Brain refused to answer questions about Israel's efforts to eliminate nuclear competition in the mid east, notable it's recent attack on a Syrian reactor. When asked about an Israeli air strike against a Baghdad reactor in 1981, Bush replied: "I don't remember what I was doing in 1980 -- let's see, I was living in Midland, Texas . . . "

Sadly, this was probably the most honest answer of the day. Repeat after me: this is your President, this is your President on coke . . . . any questions?

Moron sounds on the program tonight! Join the fun and frivolity, call 800-989-1480!

In my opinion, classic plain is always the best.

14. Hi Truthseekers! Hi Cal!
Going to try to listen for a spell -- as long as the kiddos and hubby let me actually pay attention and stay hooked up to my laptop.

Car is in the shop, and my diet is shock all to hell, and the blood bank keeps calling and begging me to give, and I have a headache that won't completely go AWAY!

I need some Mike Malloy!

spots on the liberal scale (I'm the farthest left). Now for the 3 RWingers: One of my sisters is a puke by nature - she has a very "I got mine, so fuck you" outlook on life; none of us can figure out how she got that way. Another was brainwashed by Rush Limpballs in the 90s, if AAR or NovaM had existed at the time, she'd be as liberal as I am. Although not terribly politically engaged, she was actually quite liberal before Rush got to her. The third RWinger was in NYC on 9/11 - she worked at the Fulton Fish Market at the time. That's when she flipped, she's always been kinda nuts (she's still pissed off at our dad for shit he said to her 35 years ago and dad's been dead for almost 19 years) and she internalized all the "terra, terra, terra" nonsense. I can have conversations with her about health care and corporate malfeasance and we agree. If 9/11 didn't happen, I think she'd hate Bush as much as I do.

95. "Have you forgotten 9-11", is what I had my brother yell in my
face when the facts were gtting in his way. His assault on science and math were freakazoid to me to say the least. He couldn't understand why (in his mind) education is dimisnished, and that's when I mentioned the religious rights' assault on education. Brother is full of crap, and I won't mention my response to his 'what are you gonna do about it'. I'm certain that it was eavesdropped upon! :hi:

I suppose that I should just be glad that I only have 2 rwing siblings!

85.  Sad day here today
These was a few outdoor cats over the years , today the last one named King was taken and put down . He was old and around along time . Yesterday we took him in and feed him , as the norm for an old cat he was sort of lost and would not eat much . It's just sad and I miss him

94. Hi, sorry I'm late.
We've been listening on the radio. WARNING: kitty story to follow.

We did it! We converted my neighbor's garage (like a rec room) into a cattery. The wild mama cat, who lived in my backyard for five months (the guy who let her go in our neighborhood said no one could touch her) - is the tamest thing, and looks so grateful to be living in a nice, carpeted, warm area. Her new name is "Bella," and she's very affectionate. She has her six teenagers (6 months old - her first litter - except Dex, who is with us) with her, and her four brand new kittens (about 3-1/2 weeks). It turns out Bella is actually a very young cat; despite this, she's had two litters in the last six months, and been an EXCELLENT mother, who delivered all of the kittens herself.

All seven of the first litter survived (Dexter, the latest edition to OUR family came from that litter). Bella rejected the guy who lives next door ("J"), and brought herself and her first litter to my backyard. She found a 'cave' underneath my fake rock fountain. I was going to get her and the first litter, but J scared her by grabbing Dexter and handing him to us, when we were trying to get him to help. Well, the 'S' family has adopted Bella (we've become best friends - our families) and she loves them; they are going to keep her. They are also going to keep 'Mongo,' her youngest, who probably wouldn't be adoptable otherwise (he's a runt with 'unique' eyes).

We're going to rehab and fix the situation. We managed to get vouchers from the county, through a program they don't talk about, that will pay for spay/neuters for 'the teenagers.'

We will spay Bella (formerly "Mama Cat") after she's done nursing. The kittens are already eating dry kitten food.

We trapped everyone (except the kittens and Bella, whom we carried), and we took all to their new cattery the last few days.

"Moose" was deposited in the cattery, and quickly resumed his spot as the guard for Mama and the kittens. So, did Tinkerbell.

My daughter worried if J could take Bella back; I said 'No!' I'm here to testify that J abandoned her, and both she and the kittens have essentially been living in my backyard for six months. So, Bella is with the 'S' family for good (the wonderful family).

Why didn't we trap them earlier? Well, we finally got a trap that would work. And, we finally stopped believing the bullcrud that Mama Cat was unreachable. And, we finally got the right advice, and some help from the county.

All is well. I've learned quite a bit from this experience.

97. Hi Maat!!!!!
:hi: and extra :hug:s

This is such wonderful news. You and your neighbors are wonderful for helping Bella and her babies. What kind of sick fuck (pardon my French) is J to just leave her to fend for herself and keep having babies for which he denied all responsiblity? I wish I were there, I'd definitely take one of the babies - I really miss having a kitten around the house. I hope the kitties find great homes real soon.

102. Thanks for the kind words - they made me feel great.
I suppose, to be completely fair, J did dump a trap off about two months ago - but it didn't work.

NEVER did he attempt to take a cat back to his home or yard and take care of it. He's gone most of the time, and his wife and the relatives that live in that home have always tried to deny that he had any connection to the cats. He dropped the trap off, and then disappeared. We eventually fixed up the trap we had used to trap the opposum several years back (it was rusty; we had to fix it up - lucky Mr. Maat is an engineer, and figured out what we finally had to do).

I gave them a chance BEFORE the trappings to come and find homes for the cats; I never heard a word from them.

They never talk to anyone in the neighborhood.

I suppose that they put out cat food now and again four months ago, but, again, NEVER have they assumed responsibility for any of the cats.

Do you suppose that Bella knew that we were the cat lovers?

103. I think animals can sense whether or not people like them.
My very unscientific assumption is it's probably some kind of pheremone (sp?) thing that they smell when they encounter humans. It sounds like Bella wasn't always an outdoor cat. I wonder she was an indoor cat at your neighbors' former residence and when the moved they decided to just throw her outside.

105. I wonder what the true story is myself.
Come to think of it, you've got to be right - that wife NEVER liked the cat - you can just tell.

Oh, well, as far as I'm concerned, she's with the S family to stay.

She just looked at Mrs. S, and said, with her eyes, "I'm so tired. Take me where you are going to take me."

She's so happy in the cattery.

They can even let her out, let her come visit me (we let her say something to each 'teenager,' and then each teenager would just get into the trap almost), and then Bella just goes back to the cattery when asked to do so.

106. Bella's probably relieved to be off the streets. She doesn't sound like
she was at all feral. Being outside with limited human contact (especially if she'd been used to it) had to be very stressful for her. When our Cosmo was in the animal hospital, he would almost light up when he saw us. We were the only people he trusted and even though he was never an overly affectionate cat, during our visits he rubbed his head against our hands as if he couldn't get enough of us. The vet and the techs were amazed at how different he was with us - I think he missed the contact with us even though he pretty much kept to himself when he was home.

110. You're right. She CRAVES human contact.
Of course, we're praying the teenagers aren't all that feral. After all, they would all line up twice per day, as I filled their dishes (yes, they had dishes). They would all look at Bella (Mama Cat), and she would look at them like "Of course I'm going to eat it! You too!" And they would 'meow' at me, and arch their tails as if they wanted petted (they just wouldn't let you get too close).

NOT A ONE has tried to leave the cattery.

Dad S built 'tunnels' for them, and the teenagers hide there, and just watch us. They have come out to eat, and just watched.

It's interesting - two of the teenagers guard Mama Cat and the kittens, even in the cattery (in this bassinet with a cupboard underneath that Dad S built for them).

We've just let everyone handle things on their own terms.

Sorry; that's the last of the kitty talk. Thanks for listening.
