it is not like he drowned her or shot his GF/spouse.

Maybe his GF made him wear sandals and act like those guys from 300, or even worse - she was a fundie and forced her beliefs on him.

Why is it that some people we give a break to (ie, those who kill their kids and/or spouses) but not someone who molests a kid? Maybe he had really good reasons to do what he did.

Personally, I would like to see him sitting on old sparky, but then I think about other issues I have seen here and part of me wants to see him get some help and get out of jail. I am sure with some help he would be a good dad/step-dad.....

A lot of sarcasm here folks :)

1. As Grisom on CSI would say - Let the evidence speak for it's self
It is not our duty to judge unless we are called to serve on a jury, they we have to examine the evidence presented.

15. 30 years in jail with no parole.
That will give that man 3 decades to consider the crime he has done.

5. if he's found guilty, he should pay for his crime
I was, more than once, aggressively attacked for saying that Michael Vick should pay for his crimes with the strawman argument that I obviously don't care about anything else in the entire world but dogs. "WHAT ABOUT CHILDREN? WHAT ABOUT IRAQ? WHAT ABOUT RAPE? WHAT ABOUT THAT? HUH? HUH? DO YOU CARE?"

Yeah. I care. Throw the book at him.

6. Hey, I heard Karel, that freakshow on KGO, this weekend explain that
Edited on Wed Oct-17-07 09:25 PM by BuyingThyme
child molesters should not be sent to prison. They should just be sent to psychiatrists.

He was interviewing himself in the presence of some gal from the Heart Association. When she heard Karel's position on child molestation, she seemed to realize how pointless it would be to press her point about punishing adults who smoke in cars with children.

12. Don't send him to prison - send him to a psychiatric hospital
and if he never is cured from his obsession, he never gets out.

But of course, those places hardly exist anymore, since the Reagan years.

7. Remove him from society and attempt to learn about what causes people to do this
Killing him serves no purpose.

11. I'd say dissect him..
Not literally, at least not until he dies a natural death in prison.

But dissect him mentally.

Find out what his childhood was like. His family situation - or did he have one?
Find out the history of his early childhood, teens and early twenties.

Compare and contrast with other serial pedophiles. Find the common denominator.

Then, ACT on that information.

Do those psychological tests on children. On teens. On early adults.

Then intervene with counseling on those individuals most at risk. Compulsory. Binding.

These monsters don't just come out of nowhere. They're made.

17. I got flamed for even expressing the view that the guy deserves jail
and the (inevitable) occurrences that will happen there! :eyes:

I was called "medieval and despicable" for articulating the FACT that this guy will be killed sooner than later in prison, AND that I hoped he spent that time waiting for his demise in fear, and also that perhaps it would last a LONG time - somewhat akin to a rape victim's eternal fear for oh, say the rest of their life!

Oh, and I also hoped that he would understand the brutality of how living with that fear is so debilitating.

There are a whole lot of folks on DU who believe that those of us who advocate any kind of punishment for this guy are just... "medieval and despicable". I don't support physical torture, not for innocent or guilty people. But jail is our society's punishment for rape/child molestation and there are consequences that are inescapable. You may disagree that jail is the proper recourse for sex offenders but I would posit that we are lightyears away from recognizing mental illness in sex offenders vs. a criminal intent. Jail is it. So.

Facts:
1. This guy is going to jail.
2. He is going to be killed or maimed so badly he might as well be killed.
3. I believe it's not anti-progressive to wish that he suffer the emotional equivalent of what his victims will suffer for the rest of their lives and that this isn't some kind of torture endorsement, just a recognition of prid quo pro without waterboarding. Call me "medieval" and "despicable" for thinking that then but so be it.

18. It was a THREE YEAR OLD! That is SICK. Period.
I don't know - my first instincts are CAPITAL PUNISHMENT - but I'm intellectually against the death penalty...

Even the professionals don't know...

One - got to keep him away from society - PERIOD - I'm not at all against this being a PERMANENT solution...

I mean, I know they say the sex thing is not about being attracted to a child - but what is it - like being attracted to a vacuum cleaner nozzle then?

I just don't understand it at all...and to make a VIDEO of it all - for watching again at some future date?!?!

Ugggghhhhhh!!!!

I don't even want to think about it it makes me so nauseous...
