Polar Bears and Dogs – A Shocking Encounter
Edited on Thu Oct-18-07 02:07 AM by autorank
My friend Sheila Parks, a voting rights activist, sent me these pictures out of nowhere.
They’re quite something. Enjoy!

Polar Bears and Dogs

Where they met.

Sweet!

2. Saw this posted not too long ago. Yeah, it's sweet, worth a repeat look.
Apparently the bear came back a couple of days to see the dog, then went on about his business.

11. It is worth a repeat. I missed it back then.
This is one of the very best sequences of photos I've seen. The photographer was expecting the worst and got this. Not the dog is chained so it could have been ugly. I want this bear to run for president;)

7. Oh, Churchill
I've been there. A magical place. Unique. Wonderful people.

Probably the only place in North America where the "Polar Bear Patrol" is listed along with police and fire services in the phone book.

9. Those photos are absolutely amazing!
I love them all, but my favorite is the one where it looks like the polar bear is giving the dog a hug.

13. I've seen those photos, but while everyone else is oohing about...
...how cute it all looks, my first thought was OMG, the dogs are chained. The bear must be eating well at the Churchill dump, or those dogs would be dead.

20. unfortunately most of the polar bears are now STARVING
this is a sad fact, thanks to global warming and how we're destroying life on the planet!

and a starving bear will do awful things: http://youtube.com/watch?v=yLUkdwNkYBE

19. It shouldn't be too late if we get our act together.

And these bears are "wise" in a way we probably don't come close to understanding.

This shows you how things are not really as we're told, doesn't it?

21. Those are astounding!
Really beautiful! I love the one near the top where the bear's paw is just over the dog's head.

And of course the last one. I would entitle that last shot "The gentle giant". :-)

Thanks for posting. Great pics to start my day with! :toast:

24. thank you so much for sharing this
what a wonderful thing. The great wildlife photographer, Thomas Mangelson also captured some dog/polar bear shots.

It is amazing to me that they seem to befriend each other. When I worked as a travel agent, I sent a couple on a polar bear watching tour up in Churchill. There are specially designed "tundra buggies" for optimal bear viewing. It was always on my list of future must do trips.

25. Thanks for the travel tip!!!
To sit in a warm place and watch those beautiful creatures is now near the top of my list.

What a surprise. When I looked at the sequence, the message to me was, curb your expectations, at least
long enough to see what's really going on.

Thanks for the info on the photographer. I'll check him out.
