So we've got issues with a Democratic leader saying "I respect the President."
That's nice. We don't. We don't respect anyone who takes an oath to support and defend the Constitution and then spends the next seven years doing everything he can to dismantle it. We don't respect anyone who lies us into a war, then pretends to look for the missing WMDs under his desk while soldiers are dying. We don't respect anyone who stands on an aircraft carrier under a banner that says "Mission Accomplished" when the mission was most certainly NOT accomplished. We don't respect anyone who shows no respect to the American People, the role of Congress in Government, or the role of a free and relevant media as a watchdog for the people. We don't respect anyone who can throw away billions of dollars in an unnecessary war yet vetoes healthcare for children. We don't respect anyone who sits idly by and does nothing while a major American city is drowned and people are crying out for help for days before anything is done to ease their pain and terror. We don't respect someone who goes out of his way to avoid any contact with anyone who might disagree with him. We don't respect anyone who acts as though the rest of us have NO RIGHT to question his actions or motives.
Civility is one thing. No one is suggesting anyone stand up and denounce him to his face (though it WOULD be oh-so-gratifying for the rest of us to see). But WHY in the hell would someone who's allegedly representing all of us who absolutely DESPISE the man and everything he stands for VOLUNTEER a statement of respect for him?
And what's more, why would some HERE, of all places, defend the statement?
He's a liar and a would-be tyrant and everyone tip-toes around the truth about him as if to state the plain truth would somehow be the gravest offense imaginable. He's a liar, a crook, and a wannabe dictator.
Maybe some of us are crazy, but we're sick of pretty words like "misled" and "mistaken" used to cover for "lies" and "greedy, grasping, evil, and war-hungry." There's a time for civility and protocol and there's a time to cut to the chase. This administration is lying to us, the Republican Party and the Republican Congress is lying to us, and the corporate media is lying to us. It's about time we stopped expecting OUR representives to play along with the game and change the rules already.
Fuck decorum, fuck civility, and fuck tradition. We're not playing a schoolyard game with a rival class...we're in a war with a group of people who'd just as soon see us wiped off the face of the Earth, dragged to Gitmo, and hung as traitors.
I, for one, am sick of mewling, mealy-mouthed, chickenshit politicians with nerves of jello. And, frankly, I'm sick of those who are so enraptured by the notion of tradition and civility that they'd watch George W. Bush piss on the Constitution on the White House lawn and say "you can't yell at him for it--he's the President."
Oh, bite me.
