What is the difference between this and Holocaust denial?
Edited on Thu Oct-18-07 03:52 AM by TheUniverse
The Freepers are currently supporting the defeat of the recognition of the Ottoman Genocide of the Armenians as seen in this thread. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1912296/posts

Our country is currently denying a genocide took place in order to please an ally. Imagine if we denied the Holocaust to please an ally? There would be a ton of uproar over it. So why do we let the Republicans get away with this? This is the lowest of the low and an insult to the million who died 100 years ago. We are denying history just because of "strategic international relations." Simply Pathetic. Seriously, sometime in politics, the politicians forget about morals.

2. I believe we have condemned the holocaust and the Indian Slaughter and Lyncings.
You're right we never condmended the ones you mentioned though, because they are ancient history, And no one denys those things happened.. But plenty of people in Turkey, deny the Armenian Genocide. As a result, we dont need to cave in to bigots who refuse to see history. What we are doing right now is no different than caving into David Duke.

3. Hitler : "Who, after all, speaks today of the annihilation of the Armenians?"
http://www.armenian-genocide.org/statements/hitler.htm

"My decision to attack Poland was arrived at last spring. Originally, I feared that the political constellation would compel me to strike simultaneously at England, Russia, France, and Poland. Even this risk would have had to be taken...

...I have issued the command — and I'll have anybody who utters but one word of criticism executed by a firing squad — that our war aim does not consist in reaching certain lines, but in the physical destruction of the enemy. Accordingly, I have placed my death-head formations in readiness — for the present only in the East — with orders to them to send to death mercilessly and without compassion, men, women, and children of Polish derivation and language. Only thus shall we gain the living space (Lebensraum) which we need. Who, after all, speaks today of the annihilation of the Armenians?"

12. Thanks. I had heard this quote a number of years ago and was amazed
I am glad that the Armenians are finally getting some notice if not full justice.

6. That's what I was saying the other day, what if this lot was in during WWII.
We would have simply ignored the atrocities and stayed out of the war with the Nazis, ignoring their inconvenient genocide of 11 million people, lest it create a "difficult" foreign policy situation, such as a war with Germany.

7. There is no material difference whatsoever
Both lie within a period considered to be modern history.

8. Even Jimmy Carter won't call what's happening in Darfur "genocide"
I know this is afrom a week and a half ago, but has he gone stark raving mad? How can you not call it what is is, genocide?

9. Yes, I was shocked at this!
It IS genocide. I am an admirer of Carter overall; but he's very very wrong here.

10. In moral terms there is ansolutely NO difference. Nada.
And it's a tragedy that its not just freepers who are cleaving to this policy of savage indifference.

11. The difference is lobbying
The Armenian-Americans have come a long way to eve get a bill this far, but they still have a long ways to go before they reach the penetration and access to politician's that the likes of AIPAC has.
