Benazir Bhutto returns to Pakistan
Edited on Thu Oct-18-07 04:17 AM by malaise
after eight years in exile. Adios Mushie -the queen of corruption is back. How many laws did they break to facilitate her return. Tens of thousands are in the street. Live coverage on BBC. If you have BBC International take a look at the thousands of people on the streets by the airport.

1. This discussion is hilarious

The eldest child of populist prime minister Aulfikar Ali Bhutto, Benazir came to embody power, privilege and pathos.

Her father was deposed in a coup in 1977, hanged two years later on dubious murder charges.

He died at the hands of military strong man Zia Ul Haq, who also imprisoned Benazir Bhutto before she fled into exile.

General Zia Ul Haq promised elections, but ruled for 11 years before dying in a suspicious plane crash in 1988.

He was disastrous for democracy, but he was a bulwark for Washington and its Cold War campaign against Soviet ambitions in Afghanistan.

Pakistan was the key conduit to the Afghan Mujahideen, out of which grew the Islamic fundamentalists Taliban in the 1990s, armed and trained by Pakistan, partly under the administration of Benazir Bhutto.

Now she returns with the backing from the US and Britain. What a mess.
Mushie will no doubt die in a suspicious plane crash. Thank Kissinger, the Nixon goons, Reagan and Bush Snr. for this mess.
