I opposed the Iraq war cause I knew we were making a 60 year commitment
to a war where we might never see victory.

I thought the invasion would make us less safe - more Americans would die and more terrorist would be created through an invasion of Iraq.

I thought that the exit strategy ("we will stand down when the Iraqis can stand up on their own") and that the objectives ("to overthrow the Bathe party, get rid of the WMD threat, and leave a pro-west, secular, democratic, unified, stable Iraq") were poorly defined and only achievable through a half century of hard work, blood, and sacrifice.

Why did you oppose this war?
Why did you support this war?

When HRC says that she would withdraw in 2009, does she mean that she thought that this war would be over by 2009? Surely she can't be that naive. Can she?

2. I didn't know that it was "wrong" back in the day
I actually thought that Saddam had some WMD. I thought that there were better ways to deal with Iraqi WMD problems.
Diplomacy, counter-intel, and collective security would have been better tools to rid Iraq of WMD.

Peace and low stress and thanks for the reply.

3. We were sold a bill of goods to get us into this mess.
The neocons wanted this war because of oil and Israel. If it was such a good idea to go in we should have been told the real reasons and we should have had a debate on it. But a huge fraud has been perpetuated on us, which has left the invasion lacking legitimacy. And as you point out, the expressed justification du jour remains a vague slogan that defies definition.

4. I opposed it because I knew Iraq had no WMD's especially nuclear weapons...
I figured the most we would find would be some residue from old chemical weapons dating back to maybe as late as 1992. I thought the entire war was stupid, the reasoning behind the war was really weak, a nation crippled by a decade of sanctions, such as Iraq, couldn't afford to kick start a nuclear weapons program nor maintain chemical and biological weapon stockpiles. The fact of the matter is that it was one of those situations where I'm simply puzzled by the stupidity displayed by far too many politicians who apparently can't think things through, at all.

5. I also opposed it because it's wrong
Starting a war is wrong. End of story.
