It's been terrible weather. So much rain my yard is flooded. Pensacola has had some terrible damage but it looks as though there are no serious injuries.

We're a peninsula just across the bay from Pensacola. You have to go through Gulf Breeze to get to Pensacola Beach. I was shocked when I saw your post and that you remembered "gulfbreeze" as I rarely comment (I do read DU everyday though). I've found the best leads to books and other resources from this forum.

A tornado pummeled Pensacola, Florida, on Thursday as a huge storm system threatened heavy rain and dangerous weather from the Gulf of Mexico to Canada.

Video from CNN affiliate WEAR showed a funnel cloud against a dark horizon in Pensacola, near the Alabama line.

The tornado hit a church day-care center, but the children had been moved to a safe location inside Little Rock Baptist Church, said Glenn Austin of the Escambia County Sheriff's Office.

"It just seemed to move straight through like a slice," Austin said.
