11. Good question, I assume Kucinich voted yes..
he indicated he would, but maybe there were a couple more who "stood on principle"?

I sure hope he did
This was too important to not vote yes. I say no compromise; keep bringing it up so that it haunts Bush for the rest of his term.

48. Why does Hillary hate the children of legal immigrants? She voted to leave them out in the cold.

57. She is in the Senate. They passed a bill which specifically denied overage to the children of legal.
immigrants.

Unbelievable I know, but that's what they did.

So now they have no principles and no bill. Lot of good that did anyone.

62. Kucinich has principles and Hillary doesn't. It's pretty obvious. Meanwhile,
her lack of principles just re-enforces in the public mind that most Democrats in congress are just plain unpricipled, and there is no bill.

The Democrats, on the whole, won't go to the mat, won't stand up for what's right.

If you believe that's good for the party, well, you are certainly entitled to your opinion.

My opinion is they compromised away 600,000 children of LEGAL immigrants and they still have nothing to show for it. Except that they lack principle.

64. What does Kucinich have to show for it?
he ultimately voted yes to try and help it pass. How is that any different than what Hillary did?

He realized, like Hillary did, that compromising is sometimes better for the overall good than standing on principle. In case you didn't realize, there are is a sizeable group of freepers and their reps who think SCHIP is socialism. This is what we're dealing with.

31. And we're building hospitals in Iraq
These two stories need to be juxtaposed:

The $163 million, 94-bed hospital, which will focus on oncology, is targeted to open in January 2009. Once badly foundering, the project has been moving ahead steadily since USACE assumed responsibility for its management and a new contractor was brought in.

Dorko cast a professional engineer’s eye on the construction work and pronounced it “decent.” He said hospital construction is very hard to begin with, and added that “I can’t imagine how much harder it is” in place that has had to cope with oppression, war and violence.

“It’s a magnificent project and I can’t wait to come back and see it when it's finished,” said Dorko. Construction is now 66 percent complete, Lorenzana told him.

The Basrah Children’s Hospital was one of a number of job sites Dorko is visiting prior to taking command of GRD. Already he has visited a newly constructed berth at Umm Qasr Port and Camp Bucca, where 20,500 detainees are housed.

40. We desperately need to increase our numbers
and votes like this are the reason why. Two lousy, cowardly Dems sunk the ship. That's all it took.

46. Well this shows once again
we can't do a thing

Yes, it is the votes

But it is also something else

and something else nobody wants to face

This country, as we know it, is a shell, an empty shell

47. You know their is a silver lining to this.
Alot of repugs are now trying to find cover to deal with the backlash heading their way for supporting this veto. And force them to really reconcider their loyalty to bush if nothing else for survival sake. For this 'blunder' will not go away no mater how much spin is put on this. And will probally help take down a few more of them when '08 arrives.

their constituency with this one. Especially with the obscene amounts of money that are going to Iraq.

67. Good, maybe next time the Dems bring this back they will have a more equitable funding mechanism
Sorry, I realize that this is for the kids and all, but putting a 35 billion dollar tax burden on one of the poorest segments of a society via a regressive tax is simply wrong. The Dems let the 'Pugs slip in this funding mechanism, and it stinks to high heaven.

Next time bring it back with a better, more equitable funding mechanism.

69. I fail to be disappointed anymore.
I'd have been surprised if they got the votes.

A government by the corporation, for the corporation. The majority of our politicians are salespeople with lapel pins.
