With the veto of SCHIP sustained, my prediction is that the approval rating of Congress will dip even lower.

Of course, Republicans will look at this and say "HA! This can only mean good things for us!"

But, does it really mean that?

People know that the majorities in both chambers of Congress are slim, and this slim majority gives the Republicans the opportunity to harass the Democrats as much as possible.

If the balance of power is tipped even further to the Democrats, work will be able to get done, so I think Republicans might be in for a rude awakening come November of 2008.

2. Don't get your hopes up.
If I have learned anything about this country over the last 7 years, it's that the bad guys always win, the almighty dollar trumps everything, and the team you root for always loses. I'd love to see the power balance tipped in our favor but I'm not getting our hopes up with such a low approval rating.

3. Republicans are the obstructionists.
they vote down Democratic bills, both are to blame, but Repigs are jumping ship, why so many resigning or retiring their seats, there party is toast. And Dems can get that golden ring if they choose too.

5. Many of those jumping ship are moderate Republicans
Don't you think that neocon candidates will run in those districts?

I think that people now see Congress as irrelevant
and will not contribute, work, or vote for candididates of either party. Whichever party's base is more loyal may get more people elected. I'm not feeling very loyal to our Democrats in Congress, and there are many in our base like me. I'll bet that Republicans will turn out more of their base to vote. A lot of people are disgusted with politics and will just shut down. This is exacely what the powerful people want us to do. -- Wanet

7. maybe that is Cheney's motive to subconsciously have us think
checks and balances and oversight are over and the Congress is worthless, apparently he has clear disdain for them.

4. No. It might even mean the opposite...
...the Dems were elected to do something, they've failed miserably...and the gop can make some gains if the dems don't get OFF their asses and start DOING something...

9. More likely, it means people won't vote for incumbents who've failed to represent them.
