What is the most important issue to you in selecting a Presidential Candidate?
Allow me to clarify briefly - an issue in this context is an actual step you would like to see the government take. Things like "Repeal the Patriot Act" or "Get out of Iraq" or "Provide Medical Care to all." Issues aren't stances or attitudes - "Stand up to the Republicans" isn't an issue in this context - it's a stance or an attitude (and one I'd like to see) but not an Issue.

2. getting the fuck out of the middle east
keeping them their (as Hillary wants) for "our national security interests" is a cover for "their oil".

4. now this is something you could actually do a poll with
And for once you didnt!

I'd say Global Warming, Heathcare, rebuilding the middle class. Straight up honesty and telling it like it is also helps.

6. A poll on this would be meaningful.
I don't know how to do a poll, but I would gladly respond.

8. I may do a poll later on
But for right now I want to open it up to getting as many answers as possible, not limiting them to my own thoughts on what the most important issues are.

7. This country is so screwed right

now that all three are pretty co-equal in terms of importance. In terms of priority, though, I would though order them as 1) Get out of Iraq and then 2) Repeal the Patriot Act and 3) Provide Medical Care to all. Put out the fire. Make sure it is dead and will stay dead. Start repairing the damage and building for the future.

edit: typo

10. Priority #1 is that the candidate absolutely has to be able to beat the gop nominee
...and, sadly, that means Dennis is off my list and, perhaps even more sadly, Hillary is on my list.

Now, the big issue is energy policy and global warming. That means we must have a boot-to-the-nads candidate who is ready to take on the energy industry. They are probably the most powerful special interest, with the possible exception of the media, who never has a problem getting their message out. I can see John Edwards copping an attitude vs. the energy industry. He likes to posture in the populist image.

16. Habeas Corpus (or, restore traditional constitutional protections).
After that, but closely linked, is respect for autonomy.
