My vote for president in Nov 08 won't matter anyway
I live in Kansas. The last time my state's electoral votes went to a Democrat was 1964.
http://www.statemaster.com/red/state/KS-kansas/pre-presidential-elections&all=1

So I don't need to be persuaded to vote for the Dem regardless of who it is. Barring a major miracle, the Dem candidate won't get the electoral votes from my state.

I actually feel quite relieved. I have made my decision about who to vote for in the primary and once that is over, I can choose any candidate I want and not feel like I am betraying the Democratic party.

I am leaning towards Colbert. And since he is running as a Republican AND a Democrat, I can support him here on DU.

Life is good. :)

1. Voting ALways counts
Even if you never win, you can't look back and say you did your best to change things unless you voted.

So yes, even you're the last Democrat left in the world,,,, go out and vote.

As to Colbert.... Hmmm, very interesting. I never considered him, but now that you mention him..........

3. I wrote in Pat Paulsen in 1972
No way could I vote for Nixon and McGovern pissed me off when he threw Eagleton off the ticket. So I proudly cast my vote for Pat Paulsen.

And I realized today that I could write in a candidate again this time. So far, I like Colbert. He sure would be an entertaining president. :)

Paulsen if you like. I'm still leaning toward Colbert.

Colbert is so popular that even Kucinich caries a miniaturized version of him, along with the Constitution, right in his breast pocket.

You don't see anyone carrying around a miniaturized version of Paulsen now do ya?

14. They are wealthy republicans
The eastern part where I live is not so bad. We have a Dem congressman. He's a blue dog but he's a Dem.

But western Kansas (Bob Dole country) is full of rich, rich and richer farmers and ranchers. And about half of them have gas or oil under their land. So we are seriously talking rich republicans. Not the least bit illiterate. Some bible bangers but more likely wanting to keep all their money and believing that Dems are evil liberals.

Edited on Thu Oct-18-07 07:25 PM by skipos
She is definitely a VP possibility. Kansas is very, very unlikely to go blue, but wouldn't it suck if the Repub only won by a few hundred votes and 1000+ people voted for Colbert because they thought it was funny? I am sure that sort of thing has happened in elections before.

22. I am. My vote won't count, either,

so I don't feel obligated to support the party nominee. I've done the right thing all these years and gotten little for it. I voted for Gene McCarthy in 1968. :hippie: It was a tough choice because I wanted to support Shirley Chisholm, too.

If more of us in "red" states had voted for Nader, it would have sent a stronger message to the party. Not that I think they'd have listened but it's slightly possible.

17. I feel ya. I'm south of ya in Oklahoma. At least our votes do count
in the primary. Hopefully. Ever read the book "What went wrong with Kansas?" Depressing and enlightening. Our countrymen and neigbors vote for whatever rw supposed "religious" good rethuglican, in direct opposition to their own self interest. How many times have you been utterly shocked at some ignorant completely false position you've heard from someone in conversation. Do "churches" in your neighborhood hand out "approved" voting lists for people to follow? Still seeing those stupid "W" stickers? I saw one yesterday.
Keep your chin up. We are not really alone.

So I definitely felt his pain.

I saw a "W" sticker the other day. First I had seen in a long time though. I am in KC, and this area is fairly progressive. So I really don't run into a lot of rw freaks. We do have some, though. I don't know about the churches. There are a few talibornagain mega churches that probably do hand out voting guides. But I don't belong to a church and I certainly don't hang out near any of the crazier ones.

How do you think I feel? The only comfort the state offers here is the luxury of voting my conscience. I can't say the same for folks in Florida though. They're trapped into voting for the Democrat regardless if they like the candidate or not, unless they want to make it easier for the Repubs to win.

People think there is a chance for NC to turn blue. I seriously doubt it. Our gov is a Dem, but he stays WELL AWAY from the national party.
Aside from Chapel Hill, Durham, and maybe inner-city Charlotte...it's a sea of red out there.

The whole eastern half of the state is full of military bases. They want more funding, not less.

On edit: Asheville, I forgot them - another blue area.

Yes, one vote, or a handful of votes, can make a difference -- and this could be another 1964, depending on how much election fraud takes place.

And a post like yours could influence many others to think that their "one" vote didn't matter -- but cumulatively, they do.

And just a handful of people in a single state could be what determines the electoral win for the whole country.

I know Kansas voters are usually red, but if there were ever a time for Kansas voters to turn purple with rage, it would be next year.

I couldn't access this article the second time I tried, but you can look at it once without paying for a subscription. It's an article from the New Republic talking about the growing strength of the Dems in Kansas politics. Having read it, I wouldn't discount the possibility of Obama winning the state, or HRC.

I live in a part of TN that has a republican majority, but I always refuse to let that majority influence my vote, nor do I let pundits, polls, lockstep loyalists to a particular candidate, or MSM influence it. I vote for the candidate who will best represent the people of this country and will continue to do so.
