Good grief: Lucky Dube murdered in Joburg today
http://www.mg.co.za/articlepage.aspx?area=/breaking_news/breaking_news__national/&articleid=322400&referrer=RSS

Reggae musician Lucky Dube was shot dead in a hijacking on Thursday in Rosettenville, Johannesburg police said.

Captain Cheryl Engelbrecht said the incident took place at about 8.20pm when Dube (43) was driving a blue Volkswagen Polo in the Johannesburg suburb.

She said Dube was dropping off his son in the area when he was attacked. "His son was already out of the car. When he saw what was happening, he ran to ask for help."

The hijackers were still at large. The boy was too traumatised to provide police with any information, Engelbrecht said.
--------
Hubby and I saw him live here in Jamaica - what a voice.

1. Another Good Man done gone...
A friend of mine sent me a CD of his a few months back.

I had never even heard of him, but I have certainly played the heck out of that CD.

Damn.

2. I'm shocked - I first heard him 20 years ago or so
Just after the murder of another great musician - Peter Tosh. In the early days Lucky Dube sounded quite a bit like Tosh.

This sucks - just sucks.

He was great. We lost Peter Tosh in a similar way. That's terrible.

Here's a signature sound of his band.

4. OMG!
I am speechless. I've listened to his music since I was a child.

Oh God why?

May his soul rest in peace and may God be w/ his loved ones through this hard time. I pray for justice to prevail.

I never got to see him perform live. Lucky, your music will live forever.

Africa has lost one of its greatest musician and a man of peace.

one my fav. songs

10. Oh no
I have almost all of his music, and just this Sunday one of his best cuts was played on local public radio as I was driving. I turned up the radio just for that.

He was an extraordinary talent - songwriter, singer, musician.
