10. Or transfer your U.S. dollars into Euros or Yuan
on an internet bank? Like NetBank that just collapsed?

The answer is to stop spending, and that is what you are seeing right now with the implosion of specialty retailers. I can almost guarantee that this holiday season will end in disaster, bankruptcy or foreclosure for millions of individuals.

currency trader. Then you wait till you need to buy some milk and run back to the currency trader. The dollar will have fallen SO MUCH that your milk will be practically FREE!

And then when you need to pay rent, you run back to the currency trader again.

See? It's all very simple and convenient, isn't it? If only you weren't such a dullard!

I thought perhaps it was sarcasm, or hoped that it was. This is not a laughing matter, although there are investment strategies to counter the falling dollar.

It would be much more helpful to DUers to discuss these strategies than to ridicule them.

Another way to cash in on the rising cost of petroleum is to buy into various funds that diversify into aspects of oil exploration, drilling, refining and transportation. Or of course you can buy these company stocks individually. The majority are rising, but by investing in a fund or ETF you have the added advantage of fund managers skilled in these areas.

This oil gold rush began about four years ago, but there are other means to this end and other very favorable sectors in finance.

To act like you are a genius because you thought oil prices would rise is embarrassing. If that is what the OP has in mind, I'm really embarrassed for him/her.

The fall in US dollar, is "good" news to us who are outside of US, and paying for things in US dollar.. The more the dollar fall in value, the more we can bye, for the same price..

For america, if the US dollar are blowing down the drain.. It wil be a hell...

And if you belive that US dollar 3.40 for a gallon of petrol is bad for your pocket.. THink when the petrol wil cost twise or more... Or that it is more than enought food in the stores, but nobody can aford to shop it, and you have to get stamp to get it anyway.. Even if you have the money..

Or, the bread you eat wil not cost the same in the afternoon as it was in the morning.. (Germany 1932)...

True.. And then really get the money out of US... Maybee Chinese should do that, they have a lot of US money, and have the will to use it.. But as for now US dont like Chinese to get their hand on american companies it looks like..

Funny about, US are the ONE contry who after WW2 pressured the rest of the world to freetrade, more and more.. Less protect abroad, for US companies to do "business more freely" but when others try to come in, and use the same right to invest in US companies, they are hitting the stone wall. No way they want others to play by the same rules as US companies have been doing for 60 year or so...

28. Thank you for adding your opinion
I agree with you one hundred percent.

The U.S. dollar today has about forty percent of the buying power it had in the eighties. People don't seem to understand that twenty dollars spent today is like spending forty to sixty dollars of their future.

And it's not all that easy to invest in foreign currencies.

It would be interesting to have a serious thread on investment strategies.

40. Then start one. There is an Economy Forum and a Personal Finance and Investing Group
Both perfectly appropriate places to start such a thread.

Economy Forum;
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=114
Investing Group;
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=327

But asking for investing advice on the internet is a bad idea. Even just inquiring how others are allocated or what strategy they use is likely to produce so many different and varied answers as to be nearly useless. The suggestions will range all the way from "Put all your money in Gold" to "Put all your money in canned goods and ammo" with a healthy dose of "You don't need professional advice, brokers are ripoffs" (my personal favorite) thrown in for good measure.

55. funny story about that
i was watching the last part of breakfast club a few weeks ago and there's a scene where the principle takes judd nelson into a storage closet to taunt him into a fight. in the course of the monologue the principal says "i make $31,000 a year and i have a home and i'm not going to throw that away on some punk kid"

i thought it was funny so i looked at the conversion rate and that is comparable to around $60k a year with today's dollars.

But if other currency collapses is to be correct, it wil be a living hell to survive when the money isent worth the paper..

As the german learned the hard way in the 1930s.. And Russia learned all to wel in the 1990s.. I rembember se on TV, all the chaos what followed the colaps of the rubel..

I do not hope to se US going tru that hell, but its looks like US are going that way.. Maybee our government should get some of the "petroliums found" over to Pund Sterling or Euros before the US dollar are colapsing totaly...

Sir (I belive you are a male)

Good to know. I know my engelish is far from good, rather bad.. But I try my best.. ;

I dont know what type of movie, with the mexican peso was about.. So you may fill my in on that?

I find it little interesting to see that even IMF, find the US dollar "little overvalued".. Becouse IMF have been the force to make US dollar the fiat currency in ALL transaction the world are using to made trade.. If US currency is over valued what then for the rest of the world?.. Many country, specially they who trade with oil are using the US dollar. Norway have a lot of our value in US dollar, what should we do. get out of dollar and take our chances witht he Euro alltogheter?..

If the dollar is going to falther, it wil be a HARD experience for the american citizien, if they really belived that the hard 30s was hard.. Think about how integrated the world is today.. And how many peopole who are living in cities, without the posibility to even have a little green portch to grown some vegitables, or other food.. An I guess that the old trick with a pig in the back yard is out of the quisting, zoning regulation are make sure about that... Even the Sovjet communism was smart enough to let their people have a pig, or made the posibility to let them grown vegetables and made som meat for themself, If they was living in the vinicity of a collective then... I belive you know about this mutch better than I do, I am just a "todler":P

Euro, UK pound, currencys who dosent fault if the US dollar is dipping down hardtime.. It can be intersting to see what the response to a catastropic dipp in the vallue of US dollar wil be.. I doubt the current Administration wil gou out without a hell of a fighting, and they have controll of maybee one of the biggest arsenal of nuclear weapon.. Thats really scare me..

Håper du forsto all norsken nå da.

No, my kittys name is "vesla". Or "smal ones" becouse when he arrived she was rather smal for a year old cat;). But now, with a lot of care, love and food, she is growing up to be a nice cat who adores the "food provider" I hope then;). She is nice, gentle and verry happy to lie in the lap, or in the sofa if she are not in my lap:P

Bortskjemt is like spoiled, used to get what she want to have, when she want it:)..

I can understand that is is difcult if you dosent use it;9 Maybee little like my engelish, dont write it like my writing in norwigian I am afraid off;). But with thought, I manage to write it then;P

26. Invest your 401K in foreign market funds.

They may be denominated in dollars, but the value will increase right along with the exchange rate changes. I've gained nearly $10,000 in the last 2 months since investing most of my 401K in them.

.............sausage........... okay yeah, I'd eat it, you bet. Creole cooking makes anything taste good.

Hard times ahead. We're gonna need some of that Cajun magic to make those boiled tennis shoes tasty.

I love the spicy! No, I must have it. I eat jalapenos and habaneros with every meal and snack, no foolin'. And there's no such thing as too much garlic and onions.

Do you take Kopeks? Drachmas? Bahts? Thanks to RGBolen, I got the money and now I'm a diversified fool.

You're about to be cursed with the horror of The Guest Who Won't Leave. I'd leap over a table of lobsters to get at a plate of crawdads, yessir I would. And I'm in a bordertown where there are plenty of ladies who'd think rippin' out to Nawlins in their birthday suits would be a blast. :D :hi:
