Republicans plan to attack '70s Democrats...millions achieve new levels of not caring.

Brian Kennedy, communications director for House Minority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio), said the GOP plans to portray its opponents as “the same old tax-and-spend Democratic Party people remember from the 1970s.”

Please tell me that Democrats never sank so low when they were in the minority. If that's all Republicans have, they are doomed again. People have trouble remembering what happened politically last year, and that's assuming they were paying attention at all.

1. It would be a huge mistake for Republicans to get Americans

to focus back on the '70s. That was not a very good time for them. And remember, Republicans were in power during most of the '70s.

3. Well, they're moving forward, at least

They've just about wrung the 60s out. It's weird how Republicans -- all of them, not just the pols -- are fixated on crap that happened 40 years ago. I don't remember anyone in the 60s yammering on about flappers and speakeasys.

And that "Democratic Party people remember from the 1970s"... he's pitching to the wrong demographic. It ain't the old farts the Republicans are losing in droves.

...and remember, it was Boner's "leadership" that got him into the minority position he is today. So if he continues with his fine work for the 08' campaign, he should be able to improve the Repuke's minority status quite a bit.

So go ahead John, hit us with your best shot. How bout we remind people of Nixon? Or Spiro? And Watergate. That all happened in the 70s too remember? Yeah, let's rehash all of that for the American people. The youngn's could use a history lesson or two...

And we don't have to remind anyone about the "same old" Republicans of the 70s, we've just had a second helping of Cheney and Rumsfeld. Nobody likes those two gits.

Well, here's to hoping that we've just seen the last hurrah of the Dixiecrats. The Repubs are working like frantic chickens ginning up a new Southern Strategy, but casting the enemy externally means serial Iraqs and everyone's already sick of that shit. And pegging their xenophobic fortunes on Mexican immigrants requires tact and aplomb they don't have. The population of brown citizens in our largest states is huge and they're not going to like hearing Republican bellicosity aimed at them, with hamfisted assurances that it's the Bad Mezkins everybody's mad at, not decent folk like themselves. After 40 years of assembling governments by racist scapegoating, it's way past time for this country to grow the fuck up.
