Look what they've done to my song...
West Virginia Hills
Words by Mrs. Ellen King,
Music by H. E. Engle

1. Oh, the West Virginia hills! How majestic and how grand,
With their summits bathed in glory, Like our Prince Immanuel's Land!
Is it any wonder then, That my heart with rapture thrills,
As I stand once more with loved ones On those West Virginia hills?

CHORUS:

Oh, the hills, beautiful hills, How I love those West Virginia hills!
If o'er sea o'er land I roam, Still I'll think of happy home,
And my friends among the West Virginia hills.

2. Oh, the West Virginia hills! Where my childhood hours were passed,
Where I often wandered lonely, And the future tried to cast;
Many are our visions bright, Which the future ne'er fulfills;
But how sunny were my daydreams On those West Virginia hills!

CHORUS

3. Oh, the West Virginia hills! How unchang'd they seem to stand,
With their summits pointed skyward To the Great Almighty's Land!
Many changes I can see, Which my heart with sadness fills;
But no changes can be noticed In those West Virginia hills.

CHORUS

4. Oh, the West Virginia hills! I must bid you now adieu.
In my home beyond the mountains I shall ever dream of you;
In the evening time of life, If my Father only wills,
I shall still behold the vision Of those West Virginia hills.

CHORUS

‘Green states’ list misleading, EPA official says

By Ken Ward Jr.
Staff writer

West Virginia has landed at the bottom of another ranking of states, this one a Forbes list of American’s “greenest” states.

Environmental Protection Secretary Stephanie Timmermeyer dismissed the rating, saying it was based on misleading data and a subjective scoring system.

“If I had to pay for it, I wouldn’t,” Timmermeyer said of the magazine’s rankings, posted for free online at www.Forbes.com. “I’m not giving a lot of credence to the ranking.”

Snip...

The state ranked poorly in each category used, including greenhouse gas footprint, water quality, air quality and toxic waste management. Read More...

Almost Heaven?

Maybe we need to change our state song...

Paradise?

Daddy, won't you take me back to Muhlenberg County
Down by the Green River where Paradise lay
Well, I'm sorry my son, but you're too late in asking
Mister Peabody's coal train has hauled it away

1. The mountaintop removal mining going on in WV
Edited on Fri Oct-19-07 08:47 AM by lazyriver
could very well be the most blatant finger-in-the-eye violation of our environment that is going on in this country. Given the Bush administration's record of environmental degradation, that's saying an awful lot.

Edited for bad typing.

Byrd and Rockefeller are two of the Senate's big guns. Why can't they do better for you folks? It'sa godamned shame.

4. The Rockefeller family is making money off of this kind of thing...
to this day.

Byrd is a "Friend Of Coal," and a few non-union jobs trumps the mountains that it took nature a billion years to create. Once the mountains are bulldozed they are gone forever. Be glad you don't have the cursed coal in your mountains.

It is a God Damned shame!
