Poll question: Do you think Bush/Cheney will relinquish power in 2009 ?
From some of the supposed mistatements by Bush--1) I might not either re: Putins hint that he may no go when his times up 2) Democrats seems terrified of these folks. Rockefeller won't release the pre-war report, Ried wants to capitulate-AGAIN-on illegal spying....and so much more, makes me have an uneasy feeling that either the Dems are being blackmailed and/or there's a planned domestic attack that will justify Bush enacting his martial law plan.

They've ALL got to know that a honest administration will prosecute and expose the wrong doing of the past eigth years.

This tinfoil hat is getting tighter by the day, so maybe you folks can make me feel a little safer.

10. I think W and Cheney will go quietly on January 20th, 2009
Still I was disturbed by W's "joke" about him planning on staying in power past his term.

But I think he and Cheney will go on January 20th, 2009 and the new President and Veep will be sworn in.

4. I was disturbed by W's "joke" the other day
When he was asked about Vladimir Putin staying in power past his term....and W chuckled and said:

"I'm planning on doing that myself."

:scared:

It reminded me of W's other "joke" in December 2000, when he said:

"It'd be a lot easier if this were a Dictatorship....just as long as I'm the Dictator"

Now these MIGHT be jokes, but they're immensely unfunny jokes and are also greatly inappropriate jokes for a politician, ANY politician to make.

5. The problem with your premise
They cannot just refuse to relinquish power. There would have to be a reason. THAT is the scary part.

I honestly don't think they intend to relinquish power, but that doesn't mean I expect they'll attempt to keep themselves in office. A more likely scenario is that they'll try to install a toady such as Jeb, or some other torch carrier. That will still involve significant malfeasance and manipulation of the system, but I think that is their ultimate game. Removing one puppet and installing another.

Now...who will that puppet be? That is the question.

15. Oh, they're working on it. Where do you think Karl's been?
You already hear it on the Corporate Media. They're still boldly proclaiming that the Democrats can easily lose this, despite the insanely lopsided polling. They want us to believe that nearly 75% of the voters will change their minds at the list minute and vote for a cross-dressing mob lacky or a war-mongering BushCo ass-licker, or a lackluster moron TV has-been just because the Democrats haven't been strong enough in stopping them from being so evil.

Do you get that?

They're actually trying to tell us that the majority of Americans, while strongly opposed to the current administration, it's policies and the slate of Republicans flip-floppers and fakers, will vote them back in because the Democrats didn't succeed in stopping them. Seriously...listen. That's the current media spin on this bizarro election.

America hates the Republicans so much that they'll vote them back in because the Democrats won't stop them.

And the scariest part? Americans will probably fall for it once again.

It could be the opposite of what you think . I believe that the Republicans are almost ceding the election to put us off guard on purpose. They want us to relax and get off our games.

Make no mistake brother, for them the fight has not yet begun.

AN evil thing comes this way... Beware

13. The problem with your premise is...
That without a strong legislative branch and a judicial branch that has, with a few exceptions, looked the other way or given into Bush's interpretation of the law, he can refuse to relinquish power.

Who will stand up to stop him?

22. what's left to plunder
They've already thrown us into debt for decades upon decades. It wasn't enough to steal the treasury; they then kept stealing and stole whatever they could charge.

On top of that, they've stolen the equity out of most peoples' homes.

There can only be accountability after an act like that.

Time to disappear and disappear they will do.

Remember Poppy bush's statement about if people had known what we did, we'd have been tarred and feathered? His acts don't even come close to the mugging and theft his son and Cheney have perpetuated on the American people.

42. I posted this once before....apparently it bears reposting
If you read the WHOLE quote....

Just to start with, I doubt if anyone despises George Bush more than I do. And, yes, it is unsettling that he would joke about something like this, even in the slightest. But, as usual, people are being misserved by someone clipping the quote and leaving out important information. This is what Bush actually said:

As for Putin’s plans to remain as prime minister:

"I've been planning that myself,'' Bush joked.

“I have no idea what he’s going to do,’’ Bush said in a more serious vein. “I asked him when I saw him in Australia… I tried to get it out of him. He was wily. He wouldn’t tip his hand… I’ll tip mine. I’m going to work hard to the finish. I’m going to sprint to the finish line, and then you’ll find me in Crawford.’’

As you can see, he actually followed up with his plans to finish and then retire (God, let's hope so) in Crawford.

Moral of the story: Always look for the original source of a quote yourself and make sure you get the WHOLE quote, not just what someone wants you to hear. Clipping quotes so that they seem to mean something else is sloppy and intellectually dishonest. Unfortunately, you see it done all the time by RWers and the GOP and, even more unfortunately, some people supposedly on OUR side (MIHOPER's come to mind).
