MSNBC: "Georgia’s governor declares drought emergency" ... not ONE mention of climate change
This story blows me away.

It's an excellent story, and lists a liteny of things that are in line with what the climate models predict that are causing the current problems in the Southeast USA.

In spite of being an intelligent and well-written story, ther is not one mention of global warming and how scientists have been saying this exact thing would be the result.

I think the media been intimidated by accusations of "left-wing/global warming/Al Gore/Alarmist/consensus vs. science" bias so much that they're becoming unwilling to mention global warming anymore. The media that isn't actively supporting the denial community, that is.

Anyway, 'nuff rant. Here is:

Georgia’s governor declares drought emergency
White House says it will review Perdue’s request for federal assistance

AP - Updated: 3:46 p.m. CT Oct 20, 2007

CUMMING, Georgia - With water supplies rapidly shrinking during a drought of historic proportions, Gov. Sonny Perdue declared a state of emergency Saturday for the northern third of the state of Georgia and asked President Bush to declare it a major disaster area.

Georgia officials warn that Lake Lanier, a 38,000-acre reservoir that supplies more than 3 million residents with water, is less than three months from depletion. Smaller reservoirs are dropping even lower.

1. Lt. Governor says "can't conseve way out of problem", Governor says "backup plan is to conserve"
Sorry Atlanta and all areas affected, sorry for your situation. I hope thru conservation you make it ok.

When will we stop tolerating the global warming denial community just like we won't tolerate a Holocaust denial community?

2. The thing to remember here is that Sonny is a dimwit & a liar
and the foe of all things good. Once you know that, nothing he does will surprise you.

4. I don't know about that, but my observation was regarding the story itself.
Gov. Sonny may be those things, but from the quotes in the story he seems to understand he's got a serious situation on his hands.

My real peeve is that the story doesn't mention global warming.

Every time there's a story about how the climate is causing a higher number of floods/drought it should be mentioned that climate models predicted global warming would do this.

MSNBC has decided to leave the elephant in the room out of this story, and that's a sad display.

3. Global warming is out of control and unstoppable. That's why.

Because if people caught on to just how bad a disaster we've created, there would probably be a lot of panic and rioting.

5. You really think the reason the media is sometimes choosing to leave it out of the conversation...
..is because it's out of control and unstoppable?

No, I don't think you're onto anything there.

6. Because Sonny Perdue is a global warming denier. Part of the

problem is the extremely bad water management. People in Atl have been complaining about this for several years. The people that live around Lake Lanier have been the main ones complaining. I have traveled the routes past Lake Lanier and lake Altoona for years and 65% of the time the lakes appear to be down because of drought or water release from the dams. Hartwell Lake, on the S.C. Georgia border has the same problem. As a child I used to play in the Togaloo and Savannah rivers before Hartwell Lake was created with a federal dam. My best friend, a girl, drowned in Hartwell Lake because one of the roads was not blocked off correctly that lead into the reservoir. She had polio and could not get out of the car. It was at night and no signs were posted. Sorry to get off of subject. That memory just came back thinking about what the federal government has done to the nations natural rivers to divert water. :dem:

7. Do you think this story failed to mention the obvious link to global warming because of Sonny Perdue
?

8. Maybe.
The subject is "Georgia’s governor declares drought emergency" ... not ONE mention of climate change" Georgia is a Re-Pubic-Rat state. The media in GA. kowtows to the powerful there. I was born in that area. They are the same media that decimated Max Cleland, a war hero in my book. :dem:

11. indeed...i hate to say this
but no disaster, no matter of what magnitude, can strike this brutish tapeworm culture of ours w/out evoking karma. 1/2 of Iraqi population was under 15. The pig was told that repeatedly; yet he used 'shock'n'awe' to tantalise the bush toadies who delight in other peoples' suffering. (one benefit from the bush extravaganza is that any situation adversely affecting these people and calling for generosity and compassion can henceforth be safely ignored; pity and contempt is all WE deserve...)

10. I should have worked Gore into the story I guess...nobody gives a fuck about a story about media
apathy regarding global warming.

The #1 issue the world faces, and people - even on DU - are still apathetic.
