Fox News Channel Bombs with Comedy Show (from the Orlando Sentinel)
http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/entertainment_tv_tvblog/2007/02/fox_news_channe.html

Excerpt:

Jon Stewart knows how to do slashing comical commentary. He weighs in on what's happening, such as the media's bizarre coverage of Anna Nicole Smith's death.

David Letterman knows how to do slashing comical commentary. He takes President Bush's awkward speeches and contrasts them with the lasting words of John F. Kennedy and Franklin Roosevelt.

Fox News Channel does not know how to do slashing comical commentary. The channel debuts "The Half Hour News Hour" at 10 p.m. Sunday and repeats it at 10 p.m. Feb. 25. This show was meant to be a conservative version of "The Daily Show." It is a botch.

"The Half Hour News Hour" does not comment on what is happening; it simply takes swipes at people. These people include Howard Dean, Hillary Clinton, Dennis Kucinich, Barack Obama and Ed Begley Jr. Other joke topics are the ACLU, Time magazine, children's books and global warming.

2. It's what is to be expected from FAUX--not satire like the Daily Show
Edited on Wed Feb-14-07 01:19 PM by WI_DEM
which also satirizes democrats but is nothing but a Democratic hit piece. Typical of the "fair and balanced" network.

4. real comedy points out the irony of reality.
FNC doesnt have any sense of humor or notion of reality. Of course its a bust.

5. I thought the Fox Noise Channel was a comedy channel.
Why would they need to create something that they already are?

6. (yawn)
Fox News is clearly doing it out of nothing more than spite. And while the conservatives will trumpet it as the funniest thing ever, anyone who is rational will ignore it, and it will die the agonizing death that most neocons deserve. Give me Stewart and Colbert anyday.

7. *We distort ... you decide.*

Nothing new here folks. Just move along.

If Faux wants high comedy they should just stick with their proven winners; Coulter, O'Reilly and Hannity among many.

8. I am really embarrassed for all involved in this endeavor.
It's obviously a bad rip off of the Daily Show and since R-wingers aren't known for their subtle satire, Ugh. I'm just embarrassed.

10. If they did good comedy
their viewers wouldn't get it. It's hard to understand irony or satire when picking knuckle scabs.
A pie to the face might sell, and they could do it over and over. They also might try some nose picking and fart segments. Hey, pull my finger. Dullards all.

19. Exactly. They're just not funny people.
It's a hopeless endeavor which the funny people will endlessly mock. :-)

12. Wanna know how bad it is? Even FREEPERS think it sucks ass:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1784553/posts

"Here's the deal. When you TRY to send a message via comedy, you usually fail because you unconciously emphasize the message at the expense of comedy."

"I saw the clip and it was flat, not bitingly funny like The Daily Show."

"I completely agree with Allahpundit on this show. It is TERRIBLE based on the clip seen here. ... I can spot the basic flaw with this show. They are TRYING to spread a message rather than concentrating on comedy."

16. The Daily Show started out as a fake news show that ridiculed typical daily reporting
The apparent liberal slant is a direct result of the fertile comedic ground delivered to them by Bush Co.

Starting a program with the intent of embracing only one political ideology is doomed from the start; only those already sold on Fox News would even bother to watch. How much convincing do the 65+ curmudgeons need?

The current invisibility of Dennis Miller is testimony that this simply does not work.

it appeals to the lowest common denominator in freepers. Totally unoriginal in it's writing, just not funny.
