7. Actually, those are the totals for all counties
For the San Francisco County voters, Kucinich came in first! There were separate results for San Mateo, San Francisco, and Santa Clara Counties, and also a total of the results from all other counties. Kucinich also came in first from the "all other counties" category, while Edwards was first overall and in San Mateo, and Obama first among the Santa Clara County voters present.

Here are the percentages overall (with 761 votes cast):

JOHN EDWARDS-----29.0%
DENNIS KUCINICH-----23.6%
BARACK OBAMA-----22.5%
HILLARY CLINTON-----16.8%
AL GORE (Write-In)-----3.0%
BILL RICHARDSON-----2.8%
JOSEPH BIDEN-----1.0%
CHRISTOPHER DODD-----0.5%
MICHAEL GRAVEL-----0.5%
Other Write-ins-----0.1%

All the figures are at this website.

The votes for this straw poll were hand-counted by volunteers, including me. We counted them all (twice, actually) in 30 minutes, with some teams being done with their share well before that.

8. Hi, neighbor. My brother and his three daughters live in San Mateo.
I am so happy to see Edwards and Kucinich come in first and second! I thought San Mateo was more conservative than that. It's good to be wrong. :)

9. I'd consider San Mateo results more conservative than the other counties
Here are the San Mateo totals:

San Mateo County Results
Votes cast: 423
Vote Count Percentage
JOHN EDWARDS---117---27.7%
HILLARY CLINTON---102---24.1%
BARACK OBAMA---96---22.7%
DENNIS KUCINICH ---63---14.9%
AL GORE (Write-In)---17---4.0%
BILL RICHARDSON---14---3.3%
JOSEPH BIDEN---8---1.9%
CHRISTOPHER DODD---3---0.7%
MICHAEL GRAVEL---3---0.7%

I don't live in that county or know terribly much about its demographics, though I believe it's quite a wealthy county.

22. Largely white, middle aged homeowners in small households,
median income about 35K according to Quickfacts, which seems right to me. I nearly was slugged at one of their fairs for wearing a "No War" t shirt in 2003 (I forgot where I was going).

28. Lots of families with kids too. I've seen quite a few Giuliani stickers
around. There are some very wealthy communities here which are quite conservative & very reupublican. I expected Hilary to do better.

17. Kucinich came in 4th in San Mateo County
Sorry bout that bub.

We are not very conservative here thank you very much, Kerry got 73% in SSF, nearly what SF gave him.

14. Kucinich was the only candidate in person in San Mateo
I mean, um, yeah he won/did well, but when I saw that he was going to be there in person, I thought, I am not going to a freaking Kucinich rally --give me a break.

I went to church instead.

Good to see HRC way down there. Most straw polls seem to put her down in the standings, but the nightly news trumpets her from the rooftops...so she must be the winner.

13. Kucinich was there in person
I knew he was gonna come close simply because his fans were there to see him.

Suffice it to say, I didn't go and this San Mateo County Democrat is not voting for Kucinich in the primary, period.

If he wins the primary, you Hillary haters, I will vote for him in the general.

And if he wins, I think that wish that someday I would be taller might come true also.

And please, don't be so shy about how you feel re: Dennis Kucinich. Especially not on a thread that is posting some good news about him.

Peace.
