Web footage haunts Rudd

SOMEONE, somewhere in the dark recesses of the worldwide web last week dug up the piece of footage that could do more damage to Kevin Rudd's election chances than any policy blitz.
It wasn't a racist outburst or a sexist rant. He was fully clothed, sober and the woman sitting next to him appeared oblivious to his behaviour.
It must have been at least six years old as the video was taken when the now Leader of the Opposition was still on the backbench. Thinking himself invisible while his colleague Anthony Albanese holds the floor at the dispatch box, Mr Rudd absent-mindedly picks his ear.
Harmless enough - until the Member for Griffith then sticks the same finger in his mouth. Vocal reactions to the clip are inevitable and involuntary it's that revolting.
