Valerie Plame is on The Today Show right now!
Edited on Mon Oct-22-07 06:32 AM by OmmmSweetOmmm
I wonder if she'll find a way to bring up her work on Iran?

2. Meredith asking Valerie about Iran! Asking if what happened with Iraq can happen in Iran.
Valerie saying that Iran has intent but Americans must get as much information as they can before going into Iran. Meredith asked if Valerie thought that this administration would try to do what they did with Iraq (I guess meaning lies). Valerie thinks they would.

My guess is that more people have seen this interview than 60 Minutes last night.

Meredith did a very good interview.

9. Sure.
I think Meredith is fine. My point was simply that Valerie Plame cannot bring up her work regarding Iran, nor discuss it if Meredith brings it up. I think it's important that people not get their hopes up that she will do something that she can't.

11. My point is that it was brought up and although not going into detail, Valerie
said that this administration is capable of going into Iran as they did with Iraq. Valerie said she did do work on Iran but did not go into detail. There was more detail in the unaired 60 Minutes interview on that.

The crux is, here is someone who worked in nuclear proliferation in regard to Iran and was implying that there was no solid evidence that Iran had the means or the weapons.

14. Yep.
That's a good point -- and others can go into more detail than she is able to. It's a shame that the CIA handcuffs her, so to speak, and keep her from being able to speak openly to the American public. I think that her book being published now, and the attention that it gets on tv etc, provides a great opportunity for others to speak up. That includes everyone from those in congress who are opposed to the Cheney plan to strike Iraq, to those at the grass roots level.

I suspect that CBS executives folded under pressure, and opted to cut any mention of Iran as a result. That should also get a lot of attention.

15. Last night on 60 Minutes they had Valerie showing Couric her book's manuscript
with all of the redactions. 10% of her original text.

I don't know about elsewhere, but here at DU, the fact that they deleted her discussing Iran with Couric is getting a great deal of attention. How many people will actually know about it? IMHO, not many. A percent of a percent of the American people. I'm not surprised at CBS' decision. They sat on Abu Ghraib until after the 2004 election as well as trashing Rather for his report on Bush's AWOL story.

16. I'd think it
might be worth DUers while to contact MSNBC's David Shuster to request that he report on what took place at CBS. Sometimes if one media source reports something, others follow. I also agree that having a large number of DUers aware of it helps to spread the word.

I really hope than Dan Rather is successful in his civil case against CBS. It is a shame to see them reduced to what they have become.

17. Keith Olbermann would be an excellent choice for that. I wouldn't even be surprised
if he airs Meredith's interview with Valerie tonight. An email from me to KO going out in a few minutes!

As to CBS..it is sad that they sold their souls to the angels of death.

20. I think
that you are right .... I think that both Hardball and Countdown are planning to cover the Plame scandal this week. It is very important that people contact both shows (and Shuster) to ask that they go into detail on the Iran business. They won't be able to interview Ms. Plame in any detail on Iran -- as far as her work -- but they can bring on other guests and really expose what has happened. More, I think Shuster should be encouraged to focus on who put pressure on CBS, and why?

Great thread. Thanks.

21. PS: Her book
goes on sale today. Are you getting it?

I usually can get a book a few days before its release date, but this one wasn't shipped in time. The book store will call me when it gets in.

6. They first did a background piece on Plame and the outing. Once Meredith
started interviewing her, she let Valerie do most of the speaking. Valerie explained about her job and how her outing blew her sensitive job. That up until her outing, only a handful of people knew what she did for a living. She made it clear that her outing was payback for Joe's article in the NYT.

At no time did Meredith try any "I got you" questions as Couric did last night on 60 Minutes.
