IMO since the USA is the occupying force in Iraq
It is our obligation to protect the borders from foreign intrusion whether it be from Iranians or Turks. If we do not act to protect Iraq then we are derelict. Iraq can not protect itself without USA permission so it is upon the USA to protect Iraqis. Do you think the USA will protect Iraq's borders from Turkey?

2. Technically, Sir, The U.S. Is Not An Occupying Power In Iraq
For some years now, the U.S. and others are present in Iraq by invitation of the Iraqi government. That that government is a puppet show, and that we would certainly not leave simply because it asked us to, does not alter this.

Far from 'protecting' Iraq's borders against Turkey, U.S. forces will most likely provide them covert assistance, as their target, the P.P.K., is a body the U.S. is hostile to as well.

3. I'm just curious....
Since the Third Reich set up puppet governments in France, Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, Italy, & Hungary while German troops were present does that mean the Nazis were not occupiers?

No attempt at puppet governments was made in the East so Poland & Russia certainly were "occupied" but what about the rest?

How should we correctly refer to German military & police forces in the West? Are they guests? Visitors? Tourists?

4. The O.P. Referred, Sir, To Legal Obligations Of An Occupying Power
Under the present state of international law, the U.S. does not meet the criteria for that status, and so has none of the obligations that come with it. It did meet those criteria, and was legally an occupying power in Iraq, during the period of Bremer's authority.

A digression into the history of the Second World War does not strike me as worth indulging here, and you may forgive me for refraining from one....
