Rep. Emanuel:"The President’s $184 billion war funding request could provide health care for 10 mil"

http://blogs.usatoday.com/ondeadline/2007/10/bush-to-speak-1.html

<snip>

Update at 1:57 p.m. ET: House Democratic Caucus Chairman Rahm Emanuel issued a statement about the president's request. "The President’s $184 billion war funding request could provide health care for 10 million children of low-income working families - with money to spare. Unfortunately, President Bush appears content to leave our troops in Iraq and our children without the health care they need,” he said.

1. Rahm Emanuel is cool
And what he said is correct.

No doubt though, that because he's a DLCer, it still won't be enough and he'll get bashed by the anti-DLCer haters.

7. Rahm and his blood-dog new 'democrats'
keep voting for that money. He talks out of both sides of his mouth.

11. MOST politicians talk out of the both sides of their mouths though
I thought the anti-DLCers would EVEN have to bash Rahm Emanuel for his comments here.

24. Except the DLC isn't a "fringe group"
But ALL politicians talk out of both sides of their mouth, and they have done since time began pretty much.

25. Its about actions, values, honesty, leadership
Emmanuel and his gang in the House cynically use the tragedy of those without health insurance as fig leaf.

The only policy these creeps support is giving Bush whatever he asks for and screwing over average Americans.

4. Question for Rahm
So, Rahm, why do you bust the kneecaps of fellow Dems who want to cut Bush's war funding? Why aren't you doing more to make sure health care programs are funded?

If Rahm used as much pressure on Repubs in Congress as he uses on anti-war Dems in the caucus, we would probably get a lot more accomplished.

Pretty sad that he's using this issue for his own political benefit when he's done everything to make sure Bush gets all the money he asks for.

16. By saying one thing and doing the opposite
Rahm knows perfectly well that Congress can't afford programs like health care because of the cost of the war. Yet he and his ilk are the ones who bully and pressure Dems to accede to Bush's demands to keep funding the money pit in Iraq.

Its really pretty simple.

14. Wrong Emanuel can't even get it right when he tries to do right.
184 billion would provide health care for a fuck of a lot more than 10 million people. That would break down to $18,400 per person. I think you could do health care for much better than that. Where does he get these numbers?

You could throw in the whole half trillion spent on the Iraqi Crusade/Disaster/Occupation and would be able to spend $50,000 for each of 10 million people.

That would also give you around $2,200 for every single fucking person in the U.S.

15. Because he's DLC you have to nitpick?
OMG! So Rahm Emanuel is slightly off on his math a little bit.

Can't you INSTEAD just recognize what he was saying, what he was trying to illustrate and articulate?

I'll gladly sing his praises for a day or so. I'm not holding my breath, though.
