Does it sound familiar?
It was the same measure used to show progress in Vietnam, Body Count. The political leaders in Washington that support this war cannot grasp the reality that there is no progress being made in Iraq. So pressure comes down from the top, stateside civilian military and political leaders for signs of progress. In country it comes down to some sort of attack. Based on sketchy intelligence a target is chosen. Close air support called in and the convoys roll.
49 Killed in Sadr city. this is what we hear. A day later on page 13D we find that 15 civilians were killed. A day later on page 18F, children, and women were killed in the raid in Sadr City.. More than likely over half of the people killed were civilians. As it was found in the late years in Vietnam as commanders under pressure for results, gave their leaders what they wanted. Body count.
So here we are again, in the midst of another body count war we can't win.
